Silgan Containers Corporation Warehouse Associate in Winfield, Kansas

A. POSITION PURPOSE:

Loads and unloads trucks, and moves materials within facility, Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.

B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

Reads production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.

Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves by hand and by fork truck.

Loads materials into vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shift or damage in transit.

Move materials and items from receiving storage or work sites to designated areas.

Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.

Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and places orders on pallets or shelves, or coveys orders to packing station or shipping department.

Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.

Open bales, crates, and other containers.

Uses computer to enter records.

Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.

Operates industrial truck to assist in loading or moving materials and products.

Prepares parcels or mailing. Maintains inventory records.

Keep warehouse swept and other housekeeping duties as needed.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

Must be able to safely drive forklift and operate other mobile equipment. Ability to use a pallet jack and hand dolly

The physical requirements for this position are classified as requiring Level 3 – Medium Work. This is defined as the ability to exert 30 to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to walk and reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ED Edwards, SAP, or general understanding of business systems as they apply to warehousing operations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Forklift certification required. DOT certificate a plus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The warehouse is not temperature or humidity controlled so outside weather conditions may affect both at times throughout the year.
