Traffic Safety-At Risk Community Specialist

**Position can be based in Wichita (preferred), Pratt, Hays, Topeka or Lawrence**

Full-time Specialist

The Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office is a collaboration between the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Traffic Safety Section and DCCCA whose mission is to provide public information and education to protect Kansans from avoidable injury or death on Kansas roadways. DCCCA provides community coalitions with coaching, tools and resources enabling them to engage in comprehensive strategic planning focused on behavioral health prevention including substance abuse prevention, mental health promotion, suicide prevention and problem gambling awareness and prevention.

Position Overview:

+ Schedules, plans, markets and leads educational and training events for minority centered traffic safety education and other traffic safety programs as assigned

+ Promotes KDOT & NHTSA messaging initiatives

+ Provides content for monthly electronic newsletters and provides and updates information for the KTSRO website

+ Identifies at-risk minority populations and works to increase their compliance with state traffic safety laws

+ Assists with child passenger safety education and programs

+ Schedules, plans, and promotes Older Driver programs and Defensive Driving

+ Provides technical assistance to special interest groups

+ Distributes educational materials and provides statistics to the public/media representatives as requested

+ Prepares monthly narrative reports on grant activities/accomplishments and submits other reports as requested

Requirements Include:

+ Requires a bachelor's degree, a bachelor's degree in a journalism, public health, teaching, communications, or other related field is preferred

+ Speaks Spanish fluently; must be able to write and translate documents from English to Spanish

+ Requires a minimum of one year of related experience in community-based training or with a not-for-profit organization

+ Must be able to interact with diverse groups

+ Requires excellent creativity, organization, communication and time management skills

+ Must be able to complete the Child Passenger Safety Technician course within set time frames

+ Valid driver's license with a good driving record

+ Must pass pre-employment background checks and drug screening
