JOB SUMMARY:

To plan, layout, construct and repair a wide variety of tools including but not limited to complicated patterns, plastic, composite, forming tools, dies, fixtures, assembly bond tools and other tooling equipment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

I.With plans, develops, lays out, performs bench and machining operations to construct, alter and repair intricate tools, dies, fixtures, molds, gauges and machine attachments, alter, maintain and repair complex assemble bond tools and fixtures.

II.Plans and constructs all forming blocks and molds, trimming and drilling tools, determine material requirements, plan machining and bench operations, design and build patterns for billets.

III.Build and construct tools using a wide variety of materials required to do all the trimming and drilling operations, including vacuum requirements.

IV.Works from complicated drawings and specifications to develop design of production parts with limited tooling, lays out work, plans machining and bench operations and prepare sketches.

V.Works from lofts, electronic models, engineering drawings, detail parts drawings and Textron Aviation standards, determines material requirements, fabricates detail parts, prepares sketches necessary to machine, weld or assemble parts and assemblies of bond tools and fixtures. Completes assembly bond tools and fixtures and adjusts control points per engineering/tool design and first article qualifications. Assist production in the layup of first production assemblies. Has knowledge of adhesive bond structures, cleaning procedures, parting agents, lay-up, bagging procedures and operation of autoclaves and ovens.

VI.Uses a variety of machinist hand tools and power metal, wood, plastic, fiberglass and plaster working equipment such as milling machines, lathes, grinders and presses band saw and sander.

VII.Uses a variety of measuring instruments which may include micrometer, dial indicator, transit, level, scale, various calipers and height gauges, protractors, laser tracker, roamer-arm and other precision measuring equipment.

VIII.Responsible for the quality of own work. Accountable for dimensional accuracy of work

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to intermittent exposure to dust, water, fumes, and plaster with some skin irritation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

High school education or equivalent. Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, a variety of precision measuring instruments, blueprints, lofts, electronic models, and drawings. Some knowledge of tooling trade. Must commit to complete the required training courses. Must possess a valid Textron Aviation forklift and tug and tow certification.

EXPERIENCE:

Combination of over 1 year pattern making and/or plastic tooling experience, tool and die, bond and tool fixture experience.
