The Monitoring Supervisor is primarily responsible for implementing a monitoring system, including people and processes, that will detect system faults and help IT teams avoid or quickly resolve incidents within the IT ecosystem. The Monitoring Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a 24x7x365 staffing plan, team training, team development, mentoring, goal planning, and performance reviews. The Monitoring Supervisor is also responsible for project planning and implementation of new tools and processes as required.
The Information Systems Monitoring Supervisor will:
Maintain a 24x7x365 staffing plan.
Lead goal planning for the Monitoring team, meet with each team member individually at least once every two weeks, provide feedback and guidance, conduct performance reviews, and provide development opportunities for each team member.
Evaluate processes and policies for effectiveness and implement changes as required to meet the primary objective.
Evaluate monitoring tools to meet monitoring objectives as IT systems evolve over time.
Develop a capacity plan for monitoring platforms to meet new project and growth needs over time. Supervise the day-to-day activities of all monitoring team members.
Coordinate work with finance to plan and manage expenses related to platform capacity.
Coordinate work with development teams to tune instrumentation and develop an effective monitoring, threshold, and trigger policy for each application.
Coordinate work with IT teams to tune instrumentation and develop an effective monitoring, threshold, and trigger policy for each appliance within scope.
Ensure documentation of the monitoring platforms configuration is accurate and provide training to all team members regarding that configuration.
Supervise testing of each monitor at least annually, or more frequently as needed, to ensure all expected thresholds, triggers, and alerts are working correctly.
The Information Systems Monitoring Supervisor may, from time to time, be tasked with additional duties relating to information systems. This may include developing specific monitoring solutions related to internal security and compliance, evaluating new platforms for potential use, participating in expense reduction audits within the enterprise, and evaluating the monitoring capabilities of strategic partners.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree (any) or 5 years of information technology experience or military occupational specialty equivalent
Preferred: A job history of implementing or maintaining monitoring systems such as Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager or AppDynamics
3+ years-of demonstrated experience in information technology monitoring systems.
Experience as a supervisor in an IT field preferred.
Experience with directing contributors in a project setting.
Experience in networking technologies.
Experience with IT systems administration.
Experience with governance, IT general control framework, Cobit, ITIL, etc...
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
Direct experience with Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager required.
Direct experience with AppDynamics is preferred.
Direct experience with Information Security Monitoring is preferred.
Direct experience with supporting enterprise scale ecosystems preferred.
