VMware Staff Program Manager in Wichita, Kansas

Title: Sr. or Staff Program Manager

This Staff Program Manager position provides a unique opportunity to work in a highly strategic part of the business with direct revenue impact. In this role, you will engage across the entire company and learn about all of VMware’s cloud technologies. The team is growing and we are looking for people to help us build and scale our organization as we ensure VMware’s cloud services meet the high security and compliance standards of our customers.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Drive technical, audit, operational and go-to-market readiness for VMware service teams to achieve their cloud compliance authorizations on schedule

  • Within 30 days: Develop a deep understanding of each of your program’s schedules, risks, issues, dependencies, and key stakeholders.

  • Within 60-90 days: Partner closely with Engineering, Product Management, Compliance, SRE, Field Sales, and Program Management to align all parties on timeline and priority.

  • Develop post-authorization plans for your programs

  • Within 30-90 days prior to authorization: Ensure each program has a Continuous Monitoring and Significant Change schedule and process in place.

  • Identify and implement ways our organization can scale and accelerate

  • Within 120 days: Drive your programs to implement baseline security requirements into their products.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Build clear, integrated master program plans (schedule, dependencies, risks, etc.) in collaboration with VMware service and stakeholder teams.

  • Proactively identify risks, issues and drive their resolution

  • Report on your programs to executive stakeholders. Be the trusted speaker on the state of your programs in key checkpoint reviews.

  • Support cross-functional initiatives to improve/develop processes, templates, and tools to optimize how we operate. Advocate for best practices, high quality standards, and innovation with your delivery team.

  • Develop a working knowledge of the operational processes and controls for relevant cloud compliance programs

  • Manage vendors and any related procurement processes

  • Update and maintain Confluence so stakeholders can view the state of the program at any time

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

You will be part of the 100+ person Security, Compliance, and Privacy Engineering (SCOPE) organization that comprises of Engineering, Compliance, Security, Site Reliability Engineers, and Program Management teams. This position will be part of the 30+ person VMware Government Services (VGS) group that focuses on compliance for US government customers. The group is distributed across several office (including Palo Alto, CA and Reston, VA) and remote locations. Our Program Management Office (PMO) is a small but growing team that works closely together to enable operational excellence within SCOPE and our stakeholder teams.
