JOB TITLE: Sr. Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety

REPORTS TO: Director, Operations
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB:
Directs the environmental, safety and health (EHS) compliance responsibilities for U.S. facilities including the development of corporate and facility specific EHS policy and program development, permitting, record keeping and reporting for compliance purposes.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develops and implements environmental, safety and health programs/policies in compliance with federal, state and local regulation and company policy. This includes Newell SEAL and PEAK initiatives, all environmental media- air, water and waste and OSHA general industry and construction safety.
Responsible for the establishment of recordkeeping and reporting procedures to meet the requirements established under permitted environmental processes and safety policy.
Evaluates facility manufacturing, including operations, air emissions, wastewater discharges and solid waste to identify potential impacts on health, safety or the environment. Establishes appropriate strategies to prevent or reduce impact on employee safety or the environment
Establishes quick and effective response to occupational incidents/accidents or environmental incidents and provides technical advice for EHS issues. Identifies and recommends improvements in policies, procedures and equipment to prevent incidents and injuries.
Implements procedures for the performance of hazard assessments for manufacturing activities that address the need for personal protective equipment (PPE), material handling equipment and equipment review.
Implements procedures for training in compliance with environmental and health and safety programs such as emergency response, hazard communications, safe working practices, and hazardous waste management
Ensures the implementation of industrial hygiene testing (air sampling, noise level testing, etc.) to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
Audits facilities for regulatory compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations and company policy and provides recommendations and corrective actions for resolution and improvement to facility EHS policies.
Oversees and provides technical review of environmental remediation projects.
Implements the development of an ergonomic program for the improvement of employee working conditions.
Implements and oversees the health and wellness programs including Worker’s Compensation, and Medical Testing.
Provides officers and managers with professional advice and counsel to assist in meeting the environment, health and safety requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum BS degree with emphasis in an environmental and/or safety discipline or in a complementary field such as biology or chemistry.
5+ years of environmental, health & safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
Certification (CHMM, REP, CSP, CIH) is a plus
Must be conscientious and able to work with confidential information on a daily basis.
Professional knowledge of federal standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT) for the manufacturing environment.
Energetic, motivated individual, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact with professionals at all levels.
Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Detail oriented, accurate, and possess good organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to learn fast and work under general supervision.
Skills to work on multiple projects and tasks are required.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Must enjoy and be productive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Energetic, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to travel as necessary.
