Distinguishing Features of Work
This is experienced seasonal or part-time public contact work in administering recreation programs and activities, with assignments in a wide variety of areas Recreation Center, Athletics, Tennis Center, or Watson. This position works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.

Examples of Work Performed
- Assist in the coordination of recreation programs including adult and youth sports, special events, and other recreational activities.
- Responsible for the preparation, set-up and clean-up of baseball, softball and soccer fields.
- Perform a variety of general administrative duties including: answer telephones, assist customers, collect fees, and maintain attendance records.
- Promote the safety of all program participants.
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and sports equipment for all facility activities and special events.
- Oversee the regular operations of a community center, fields, and gymnasium facility.
- Respond to patrons\' needs for assistance and information in person and over the phone.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment including personal computer.
- Officiates or keeps score for sports activities.
- Perform basic custodial duties.
- Sets up and takes down building furnishings and arrangements.
- Completion of work assignments may require operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work
- Ability to lead and work effectively with program participants.
- Ability to organize and lead recreation activities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, and/or by whatever creative means are necessary to cross communication barriers.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, participants and the public.
- Ability to maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner.
- Ability to use a personal computer and a variety of computer software.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment, and/or supplies required for the assigned activity up to 25 pounds.
- Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
- May require ability to acquire and maintain a Child First Aid and CPR Certification.
- May require ability to work outdoors in unpleasant weather conditions.
- May require ability to tolerate airborne nuisances associated with open grounds and windy conditions.
- May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Driver\'s License.
- An employee will not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Required Experience and Training

- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.\ \
Preferred Experience and Training\ \
- Six months of experience coordinating recreational activities.
- Prior experience in a municipal setting.
- Prior experience in general customer service.
- First Aid and CPR certifications.\ \
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of a criminal record check.\ \ St arting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
