Kaman Corporation Quality Engineer I in Wichita, Kansas

The Quality Engineer is responsible for assisting the Quality Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Control requirements within the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance to Kaman Composites- Wichita (KCW) procedures and customer requirements.

  • Trains Quality Inspectors and production employees on production-related processes and procedures.

  • Plans reviews with Manufacturing Engineers, Planners, Schedulers, and other depts. as required.

  • Plans, conducts and trains for internal audits as required by the company‚Äôs QMS.

  • Acts as an interface on internal and external audits (AS9100, NADCAP, Customer etc.).

  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.

  • Maintains highest standards of quality and quantity with minimal supervision throughout project completion.

  • Collect, analyze, and report required information on planning and/or other required documents.

  • Participates in Kaizen events.

  • Assists in the training of new employees.

  • Maintains awareness of production schedules.

  • Maintains a high degree of cooperation with supervision and other employees.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • BS in Business, Quality or other related field.

Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in quality and/or composite manufacturing is preferred.

  • Experienced using a PC and related company systems.

  • Previous Internal Audit training/experience is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to use and understand simple and more complex/advanced measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometers, etc.).

  • Ability to perform basic and more complex bench work.

  • Perform technical mathematics.

  • Ability to perform geometric tolerancing and dimensioning.

  • Ability to use and apply metrology principles.

  • Read and write well enough to understand planning, reports, and to record required information into company systems.

  • Ability to perform technical writing.

  • Ability to use a PC to record required information and prepare required reports using Microsoft Office software and company systems. Ability to train other employees on the use of the company systems.

  • Knowledge of basic statistical concepts.

  • Ability to read shop drawings.

  • Ability to interpret specifications.

  • Ability to perform and document internal audits to QMS and AS9100, NADCAP and FAA requirements.

  • Knowledge of inspection and quality control principles and standards/root cause analysis skills.

  • Possess inspection/quality management skills.

  • Ability to work well with others and in a team environment.

  • Ability to receive instructions and retain the required information.

  • Ability to receive constructive criticism.

  • Ability to communicate well with others. Must have advanced communication skills to communicate effectively with employees and customers.

  • Ability to create 2D Drawings from Model Based Definition.

  • Ability to create First Article Inspection Reports including detail parts and final assemblies.

  • Ability to research and disposition non-conforming production parts/materials.
