The pre-sales focused applications engineer supports this vision by working directly with customers to understand their manufacturing challenges and requirements and helping develop solutions to address specific applications.
The pre-sales applications engineer is the primary technical resource for the Business Development (BD), Sales and Project Engineering (PE) teams and supports opportunities when an application is not well defined or a capability is uncertain. The AE is actively involved in defining, driving and managing the customer application after it transitions into the development phase. As the technology advocate and key technical advisor to the BD and Sales teams, the AE identifies, formulates and proposes reliable solutions including component design, material selection and post processing to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the application development cycle. The AE may also work with operations, Sales, PE and Manufacturing Engineers (ME) to respond to Requests for Proposal (RFP), generate Statements of Work (SOW) and execute projects based on customer's requirements aimed at reducing risk, developing processes and researching materials. The AE should be the primary technical POC with customers throughout the application development cycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Facilitate customer’s application needs and requirements providing manufacturing solutions through utilization of internal resources to convert identified opportunities into revenue.
Assist Sales and BD with promoting SDM's capabilities through making customer presentations, writing white papers and writing or updating design guidelines.
Verify application compatibility for the target manufacturing process.
Assist customers with generating test plans and procedures to create, modify and vet applications, materials and processes.
Consult and coordinate with Process/Mfg. Engineers (PME) and operations regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate customer test plans and schedules.
Monitor customer test plans and procedures; collect data and report findings based on purchase order, contract and internal requirements.
Generate technical reports and provide customer feedback to project status.
Support PE's when developing formal responses to RFQ's and RFP's.
Travel required up to 50% of time.
Perform other tasks as required including but not limited to some direct sales responsibilities to accounts and various territories.
Essential Education, Skills and Experience:
Due to the nature of products produced at Stratasys Direct, the incumbent is required to be a US citizen or Permanent Resident Alien.
Minimum Four-year technical degree – Mechanical, process or industrial engineering, product design, or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years combined experience in engineering, manufacturing, or testing operations.
In depth knowledge and understanding of the capabilities, benefits and limitations of the additive manufacturing industry, its technologies, equipment and processes.
An understanding of additive materials, how they compare to conventional equivalents and how the additively produced material impacts application and design including distortion, surface roughness, structural behavior, geometric accuracy and component performance.
In depth knowledge and understanding of post AM operations and solutions including follow on manufacturing processes and levels of necessary inspection needed to meet and verify design objectives.
Experience with mechanical design and design for manufacture with the ability to collaborate on technical solutions regarding form, fit and function in the target application.
Strong verbal and written communication skills specifically tailored towards educating/training a variety of technical audiences.
Excellent personal, organizational skills, positive and charismatic; passionate about the target technology and the additive industry.
Computer proficiency with MS Windows, MS Office, and CAD software.
