Job Description Summary:

Professional operation of a high pressure steam boiler system, a water cooled centrifugal chilled water plant. Responsible for monitoring of an automated power distribution center, including an emergency generator system. Monitor and operate a domestic water delivery system. Perform routine maintenance and repair on all associated equipment. The AEC is required to provide these services on a continuous 24/7 schedule.

Anticipated Hourly Pay Rate: $24 - $27

The Power Plant Specialist is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment and utilities in KUMC's central utility plant, Applegate Energy Center (AEC). AEC services are provided on a continuous 24/7 schedule. The incumbent is required to have a basic understanding of boiler systems, chilled water systems, and electrical distribution systems.

Job Duties

+ Operation of multiple 40,000 lb. + steam generating boilers

+ Operation of multiple 1,250-ton centrifugal chillers

+ Monitoring an automated electrical switch gear system delivering 13.8 kilovolts to multiple grids

+ Automated and manual operation of emergency power generators

+ Maintain all system parameters through a combination of automated and manual controls

+ Maintenance and repair on boiler/chiller associated equipment, pumps, fans, primary/secondary electrical control systems, pneumatic valves

+ Water treatment testing and proper record keeping/documentation

+ Operation and maintenance of a three-tier domestic water treatment system

+ Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ Operation of computer-based HVAC automated control systems

+ Operating knowledge of chiller/ boiler plant operations

+ Working experience of centrifugal pump operations and maintenance

+ Familiar with pneumatic valve and controls experience

+ Must have routine preventive maintenance experience

+ Must have water treatment testing experience

+ Basic electrical experience

+ Basic computer operation skills including Microsoft Word and Excel

+ Ability to work any shift within a 24-hour 365 day a year environment

Preferred Qualifications

+ Operating Engineers License

+ Delta V computer operations system experience

+ Pneumatic/Electrical control experience

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
