As a PMO Practice Manager, Professional Services you will lead and develop a team of outstanding Project and Program Managers delivering an exceptional customer experience and business outcomes for some of VMware’s largest and most strategic accounts. Your role has a wide span of responsibility and influence across the Professional Services Delivery organization, aligning closely with Technical Practice leadership, Services Sales teams, Engineering Business Units (BU) and other VMware business groups supporting the delivery of a broad portfolio of business across the Globals Accounts and Canadian segments, ensuring high quality, on time and on budget service execution.
Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
You will use your Professional Services Practice management experience to take full responsibility and accountability for a team of Program and Project Managers within your assigned territory of the Global Accounts and Canada PMO Practice, planning and managing a $50M+ annual revenue business portfolio of large billable engagements for external customers.
You will quickly establish relationships with your Sales and Delivery business partners and other key VMware stakeholders to support successful definition and delivery of solutions based on VMware evolving service offerings and product portfolio.
Applying your customer focus and commitment to excellence you will establish a culture and reputation for delivering exceptional results and customer success by maintaining VMware’s delivery standards and driving consistency to key operational and financial delivery metrics.
You will act as advocate and liaison for ongoing VMware PS delivery within a number of key accounts within your territory, interfacing with customer CxO-level executive sponsors and participating in program steering committees and account Quarterly Business Reviews.
You will assume responsibility and day to day management of key performance indicators across the PMO and be accountable for quarterly revenue, margin, utilization and CSAT targets.
Leveraging your people management and leadership experience, you will evaluate your team, and work directly with individuals to establish plans to enable them and develop competencies to ensure successful engagement delivery.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Drive and engage in customer conversations regarding program strategy and vision to successfully enable the achievement of customer desired outcomes
Set clear expectations related to overall delivery approach, with early identification/awareness of customer challenges and proactively driving resolution.
Customer stakeholder program / project sponsorship and engagement, managing escalations and resolving customer-critical issues
Ensure regular reviews of large projects / program, including collaboration with the sales teams to prepare large deal sales review and post sales review during delivery
Identify key customer stakeholders in assigned territory that would benefit from peer to peer delivery relationship building
Tight alignment with PS Sales Regional Director(s) to build and maintain awareness of key pipeline opportunities, strategic customer activities and initiatives
Regular collaboration with PS Customer Sales Executives to ensure statements of work meet client objectives and provide clear and achievable objectives and milestones, while maintaining the ability to deliver the defined solution effectively and profitably.
Build value-based relationships with client Executives and key stakeholders
Partner with internal VMware teams to increase visibility, collaboration, and alignment with customer needs
Collaborate with Sales and Practice leaders to identify opportunities to convert credit backlog to new delivery opportunities
Business Leadership and Management
Manage portfolio of business to ensure the successful attainment of CSAT, including response rates, NPS scores, and delivery of expected outcomes with high customer satisfaction
Lead and drive escalations and communications, collaborating with internal VMware teams to increase customer satisfaction and adoption of VMware solutions
Personnel management (hiring, development and utilization and coaching)
Strategic resource planning to ensure utilization target attainment of assigned team, balanced with right fit for customer objectives and CSAT
Team leadership and mentoring to develop and maintain highly productive PMs who are enabled to grow, contribute, and enhance value to our customers and the organization
Partner with technical leadership to drive continuous improvement of delivery
Support the on-boarding of new employees and continued enablement (soft and technical skills) of existing employees, including VMware and contractor project managers.
Management and financial stewardship of portfolio level forecasting, working with budgets, financial plan development and revenue recognition management.
Drive Services consulting revenue to meet and exceed target goals while adhering to fiscal responsibilities for the PMO practice and PSO organization, stabilizing both client and VMware objectives.
Monitor and forecast pipeline opportunities including potential revenue impacts and staffing needs
Monitor and control the performance of the PMO resources to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with VMW financial policies.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is the Director PMO, Globals Accounts and Canada. His expertise has been built from customer-facing roles in program management and services pre-sales, primarily in Global Accounts as well as various management roles leading technical service delivery teams.
His management philosophy is about empowering everyone on the team to take ownership of their own piece of the business and successfully deliver their program and project portfolio without looking over their shoulder. He looks for people who develop creative solutions and execute strategies independently while sharing their successes and innovations for the benefit of the wider organization.
The core team is made up of full-time and contract-based project and program managers. The team is distributed throughout North America and combine working from their home offices with onsite customer visits and periodically collaborating with team members at VMware office locations.
