Position Purpose & Summary

This position oversees strategic and tactical operations for the Cargill Innovation Center Pilot Plant. Included in this are the implementation and monitoring of Safety and Food Safety programs aligned with Corporate EHS, Corporate FSQR, and governmental regulatory agency requirements. The position builds a highly engaged team of direct reports through leadership, coaching, training & development, and accountability. Ensures that the team is capable of and accountable to supporting R&D team members on multiple types of projects as well as other assigned tasks. Through work with internal stakeholders and contractors, ensures facility and equipment are maintained to provide an exceptional experience for customers and the products they receive. The Pilot Plant Manager will foster a culture of continuous improvement in all areas of accountability.

Principal Accountabilities

25% Safety Leadership

  • Develop and Foster a culture of Zero Injury.

  • Implements, updates, and monitors safety programs aligned with Corporate EHS, R&D Job Family Safety Requirements, and governmental regulatory agencies.

  • Establishes goals for continuous improvement to Safety Program through feedback from program audits and engagement with EHS experts.

  • Ensures accountability in the development, implementation, and visibility of Training SOP’s for Pilot Plant Equipment, Safety Programs (LOTO), Emergency Preparedness, and other required training for Innovation Center staff and contractors.

25% Food Safety Leadership

  • Accountable for management and maintenance of HACCP Plan and Food Safety Program.

  • Establishes goals for continuous improvement to Food Safety Program through feedback from program audits and engagement with FSQR experts.

  • Ensures all USDA and other regulatory requirements are met for products being produced as well as action plans and preventative measures for non-conformances.

  • Accountable for relationship with USDA inspection personnel.

25% Team Leadership

  • Develop and provide coaching for direct reports.

  • Team performance and accountability aligned with Cargill Leadership Model, Employee Handbook and other company policies.

  • Fosters a highly engaged team and challenges team to actively address engagement issues.

  • Collaborates across the protein group for best practices in team leadership and employee engagement.

  • Manages required staffing for daily project work and special projects.

25% Facility Management

  • Accountable for the overall maintenance and reliability of the Pilot Plant, grounds, and associated expenses.

  • Key liaison with the Integrated Facilities Management group.

  • Provide leadership in gathering information and submitting requests for capital requests, equipment leases, and other facility needs to support business growth initiatives.

  • Manage work and needs of on site contractors directly or through designates.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

  • Highly motivated individual able to work across multiple levels of the organization.

  • Capacity to multitask and prioritize needs to meet business and customer needs.

  • Strong decision making skills.

  • Strong understanding of HACCP, food safety, and food processing concepts, and capability to become HACCP certified.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Meat, Food, or Engineering related field.

  • HACCP Certified.

  • Previous experience in meat or food processing facility.

  • Competency in formulation of processed meat and food products.

  • Experience managing Safety or Food Safety programs.

  • Experience leading a team.
