Position Purpose & Summary

The Merchant II – Protein will be heavily involved in our rendered protein ingredients out of our packing house footprint in the U.S. This will specifically include our blood meal, plasma, and raw gut products. The position will manage the revenue by working closely on trading our plasma and blood meal as a high-quality protein in the marketplace. Will also be responsible for inputting raw gut orders and developing/maintaining relationships with rendering plants in the US to help in times of support our internal Cargill rendering plants. Merchant will be a vital team member and will be involved in many areas of cross-training and trading across the asset footprint as contact for customers and plants in regard to order input, maintaining pricing formula data, and production weekly and monthly reports.

Principal Accountabilities

• 50% Working with general supervision from senior merchandising professionals this position is responsible for merchandising plasma and blood meal this includes:

Developing and maintaining external customer relationships on raw guts/fat&bone, blood meal, and plasma.

Initiating, negotiating and agreeing on terms of blood meal/plasma contracts such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing and payment. Know and understand price position risks and applying the pricing envelope to blood meal/plasma.

Ensuring thorough and accurate follow-up, execution, and closure of all orders, contracts, and deliveries.

Knowing and understanding price risk positions on a real-time basis. Administrate daily activity and reconcile daily positions on all products.

Making commercial decisions to generate revenue and manage inherent risks of supply chain.

• 20% With general oversight from supervisor this position is responsible for providing data and expertise that assists the entire merchandising team. These tasks include:

Manages inventory in relation to demand of customer orders for multiple products or sites.

Contributes to decision for how and when to modify the original near-term forecast and plan.

Reviews and updates market reporting data and presents this data to the team routinely.

  • 20% Independently this position:

Edits product forecasts based on projected plant run times and inventory including analyzing supply and demand, survey market conditions, and other economic forces to maintain and grow Cargill's position in the market place.

Runs sales reports based on customer, product, and plant as needed

Will manage the raw gut and fat&bone process from start to completion including making out bound calls and working with plant on lining up trucks, to ensuring pricing is complete and through the system.

•5% Primary back up for senior merchants when they are out of the office, interacting with customers and give pricing within set parameters.

•5% Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of working experience with Outlook and Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Minimum of 2 years merchandising experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated working experience with Power BI.

  • Demonstrated working experience with XLGO or an equivalent order-entry system
