Newell Brands Maintenance Engineering Technician, 1st Shift - The Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas
Position Title: Maintenance Engineering Technician
Reports to: Maintenance and Tool Room Manager
Location: Wichita, KS
Job Summary: This position is to use established engineering practices when evaluating existing, new installations, building and modifying production equipment to improve performance and to ensure that all equipment meets OSHA and ANSI standards.
If equipment is existing, help plan and manage the upgrades required to make equipment compliant.
Apply standard good engineering practices.
Provide engineering and project management support for equipment purchases and modification.
Establishing equipment specification, standardizing components and equipment whenever possible.
Ensure that equipment manuals include drawings, schematics, programs, operational instructions, trouble shooting guides, bill of materials and calibration and set up techniques.
Update plant layouts, electrical one lines, insure standard plant identification is used.
Maintain up to date Arc Flash data and insure proper labeling.
Apply Lean and Continuous Improvement processes and function as Project Leader in implementation.
Use current energy audit reports as well as required data collection to insure we are being energy efficient with new processes and equipment installations. Keep abreast of new technologies in this area.
Review current and completed projects to insure that projected performance, efficiencies and savings are maintained.
Project manages cross functional teams applying Lean, Six-Sigma and sustainability principles.
Maintain accurate and current drawings, technical manuals and SOP’s regarding equipment and maintenance of the equipment in the plant.
Insure that ergonomics, product flow, efficiency of time and motion are reviewed and implemented.
Continually review OSHA and ANSI standards with EH&S to ensure we are in compliance.
Must have the ability to work with RS Logic Programming with strong Microsoft Excel training
Train specific skill sets to other employees and track OJT
Must be flexible in working different shifts and be able to work a weekend schedule
Must be able to work overtime as needed
Observes all safety rules
Keep work station in order
Supports team objectives

Other Skills and Abilities: Project Management skills and the ability to apply standard engineering principals and function as project engineer. Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI compliance. Must be able to research and implement new technologies as relates to plant equipment and assembly lines.
Trained in the implementation of Lean, 5 S and Six-Sigma principles.
Programming of PLC’s with Allen Bradley and Barber Coleman.
Must be able to work with Microsoft Office including Projects and Access.
AutoCAD training preferred
Experience in Smart Cam beneficial
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
EPA Certificate preferred
Electrical License preferred
Welding Certificate preferred.
Ability to get a forklift license
HVAC Certificate preferred
Education and or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, preferably in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions presented in English.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
