Job Summary

This is a “working” lead with full oversite and responsibility for an entire shift, department or operation within the RGV cell/area . Manages and leads a team of employees to complete tasks quickly, effectively and efficiently. Communicates company goals, safety practices, and deadline to team. Motivate team members and assesses members’ performance and keep management updated on team’s performance. Meets all of the criteria for an experienced CNC machinist: Working with computer numeric controlled (CNC) heavy machinery; setup materials and proper cutting tools, operate machinery, and produce parts and tools from metal or possibly other materials including but not limited to aluminum, titanium, sheet metal and/or steel to form designated shapes, cuts, and other requirements. This individual will be a skilled craftsperson who in addition to the above, is also capable of setting up and operating precision metal cutting and grinding machines such as lathes, milling machines, drills, shapers, boring mills and grinders.

Essential Functions

  • Overall responsibility for department personnel and production schedule; generates and shares detailed reports about team performance, mission related objectives and deadlines

  • Coordinate with both 2nd and 3rd shift leaders to assure proper “tie-ins”.

  • Able to read, review, and interpret CNC program blueprints and drawings for the specific requirements and specifications used to cut out pieces required for specific use within the program and quality limits and specifications.

  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly workplace.

  • Inspects products and reports any defects that occur from handling.

  • Previous experience operating 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC machines such as Toyoda, Okuma, Bertsche, Fadal, Mori-Seiki, Mazak, Makino, or OKK vertical and horizontal machines.

  • Experience with hand tools such as calipers and micrometers.

  • Communicate expectations, assignments and responsibilities clearly, respectfully, and professionally.

  • Act as a “go to” person to provide encouragement to team members, including communicating production scheduling deadlines/goals, and identity areas for new training or skill checks

  • Answers team member questions, help with team member problems, oversee team member work for quality and guidelines compliance.

  • Develop strategies to promote team member adherence to company policies/procedures and performance goals

  • Conduct team meetings to update team member on best practices and expectation.

  • Other duties as assigned by Manufacturing Manager



  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Ability to lead by example; establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with peers and all levels of management

  • Word, Excel, Outlook and ERP System

  • Planning and organizing skills

  • Technical knowledge and skills relating all machines

Physical Demands

  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 100 pounds. Work involves walking, sitting, and stooping, bending, stretching, twisting, or reaching with your body, arms, and/or legs.

Be exposed to shop environment constantly.
