Utilizes critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques based on nursing judgments. The CHN I will maintain professional expertise and keep confidentiality in all areas of patient contact. Works under the direction of written medical protocols and standing orders.Provide direct patient care. Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous immunizations, perform phlebotomy and capillary blood sampling for lab tests, screen for pediculosis (head lice), place TB skin tests and interpret the resultsProvide appropriate and effective patient interaction and customer serviceProvide immunization and health screening services according to DOH protocolDocument all servicesImmunize clients according to ACIP recommendationsParticipate in clinics outside regular clinic hoursSupport Immunization Clinic ServicesVerify and accurately document vaccine inventoryMaintain and track reminder recall system for clients who need further immunizations to include making and documenting postcard mailings and phone callsPrepare treatment room/area for patient care and immunizationsPerform monthly audits and reportsPerform monthly audits and reportsParticipate in QI projectVaccine Inventory ManagementAccurately document and track vaccinesMinimize vaccine wastage by selecting vaccines from the correct funding source for each clientMinimize vaccine wastage by selecting and preparing appropriate vaccineMinimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school. Holds a valid unencumbered Registered Nurse license with the Kansas state Board of Nursing. Participates in the TB screening program that includes baseline screening for M. tuberculosis infection within 10 days of employment. Participates in the Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan that includes training, proof of hepatitis B immunity or vaccine, or vaccine series started within 10 days of employment. Provide proof of MMR, varicella, Tdap vaccinations, or immunity within 10 days of employment start date or within 10 days of start of employee health insurance. All employees may be required to wear respirators in emergency situations and for routine operations as requested. Employees will be enrolled in the respiratory protection program, which may include an annual fit testing and medical evaluation. This is a Tier 3 position; identified as personnel who, in a public health emergency, have the potential to be deployed to the field to participate in the response, including personnel who are already assigned to a field location. Tier 3 staff are required to complete courses IS 100, 200 and 700 within 30 days of employment. Additional trainings may be required. Bilingual individuals in English and a non-English language may take a fluency test in the non-English language. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, only those who pass the test may use their non-English language with clients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). After hire, a bilingual employee who has passed the fluency test may agree to take a medical interpreter skills test to interpret between a client with LEP and an English-speaking employee.
