Job Description
The Immigration Coordination Americorps*VISTA will assist in
the growth and sustainability of this program which provides low or no cost
immigration services to low-income clients each year; the member will plan and
coordinate outreach in the community, hire and train immigration volunteers, write
grant proposals and build community partnerships. The VISTA develops resource
materials for clients such as education information and citizenship study
information packets.
Activities
• Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of individuals, groups and organizations in the community
• Recruit and train volunteers who want to assist immigrants in applying for citizenship, legal permanent residence and other immigration documents
• Plan, organize and implement monthly citizenship workshops in Wichita, Kansas
• Develop resource materials for those studying for citizenship/naturalization
• Research potential funding opportunities
• Create case notes regarding all services provided to or on
behalf of a client.
• Triage walk-in needs.
AmeriCorps Commitment
This is an AmeriCorps VISTA position. This is a full-time volunteer position which receives a small living allowance over the 12 month commitment. At the end of 12 months, the AmeriCorps member can receive an educational award or a cash payout. Training
In-depth training will be provided for interns to understand immigration programming and the various needs of clients
accessing services. A high-level of confidentiality is required when working
with IRC clients.
Qualifications
• Comfortable working with diverse populations and
non-English speakers.
• Previous experience working with vulnerable populations
preferred, but not required.
• Experience working in social work/social services
preferred, but not required.
• Be able to complete and pass a background screening
• Possess personal vehicle and valid driver’s license.
VISTA start dates are scheduled for January 18, 2021 or February 16, 2021
