Summary ALL US CITIZENS DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation. Responsibilities Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking to fill positions as a Health Technician within our Ambulatory - Cardiology Department. The Cardiology Department consists of cardiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasounds, and EKG monitoring clinics and cardiac catheterization lab. The Health Technician will be the administrative and clinical support personnel for the Specialty Care Service Team. Cardiology Department. Duties include but not limited to: Working with the providers and administrative officer in planning and organizing clinic activity, preparation of emergency and routine patient care, and appropriate patient scheduling. The incumbent will obtain patient history information and document in CPRS. Will utilize Department of Veterans Affairs policies and procedures, perform technical work in support of diagnostic tests and procedures, perform EKGs and phlebotomies for lab tests, insure and maintain inventory of patient care equipment and order as necessary to maintain adequate inventory, monitor daily scheduling and facilitate referrals, and support providers during diagnosis or treatment of patients. Serves as the heart lab technician or backup, providing healthcare services to individuals of all ages, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Responsible for performing non-invasive diagnostic testing, operation of the respective equipment, and supplying the healthcare provider with accurate and detailed information regarding patient exams. In all interactions with both internal and external customers, the incumbent demonstrates support of the Medical Center's mission and goals by responding to the needs of the patient, ensuring good customer service, and quality healthcare. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-06 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing direct patient care in a health care setting; completion of appropriate forms and referral, data collection, and determine eligibility and medical treatment. Experience working as a member of the Nursing Care Team. Customer service in a clinical setting, direct patient care, and/or indirect patient care. Demonstration of interpersonal and leadership skills. Monitoring patient's vital signs. Validating and invalidating alarms. Ability to use computers and other basic office equipment to enter data. Cardiac monitoring using appropriate telemetry equipment such as EKG, cardiac monitors, and other diagnostic equipment; measuring, printing and interpreting rhythms at designated intervals and as needed; validating and invalidating alarms; monitoring patient's vital signs; recognizing, responding, and reporting signs and changes in cardiac rhythms; recognizing life threatening situations and notifying RN while initiating emergency procedures; identifying and troubleshooting potential telemetry equipment malfunctions; and ability to use computers and other basic office equipment to enter data. Physical Requirements: The work requires at various intervals, long periods of sitting to monitor patients and/or EKG monitors. Technician must be able to visualize monitors, various equipment, and computer screens. In addition, this position requires arduous physical exertion and the use of both hands and legs including lifting 45 pounds, transferring patient, turning and positioning adults of various body weights and pushing/pulling a variety of carts, litters, and/or special beds/chairs.
