Dole VA Medical Center, in Wichita, KS. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION** Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Review and/or prepare construction documents and cost estimates for construction projects. Work with General Contractor to resolve problems that arise due to design errors or differing site conditions. Prepare construction progress reports and certify payment requests for contract construction projects. Review shop drawings from contractors for compliance. Understanding common building materials. Serve as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Review design drawings and specifications submittals for technical soundness and errors and omissions. Submit project applications and make project tracking report (PTR) updates into the database. Knowledge in construction trades such as masonry, concrete, carpentry, roofing, electrical and mechanical. Experience with preparation of design (via AutoCAD). Maintain OSHA safety training requirements and COR representative certificates. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-10 level in the Federal service. Engineering Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Supervising, leading or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices and materials. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes; Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of three (3) full years of graduate education or an internship that is directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician position in the field of engineering. OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Additional Information Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of sitting in one position, climbing up ladders and crawling under buildings and sometimes being exposed to the elements. Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
