VMware Engineering Manager, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (Remote, US Time Zones) in Wichita, Kansas

The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

The Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service for vSphere, a critical element of the VMware Tanzu portfolio, is seeking an Engineering Manager to help advance our mission of making vSphere the best place to run Kubernetes. This team is focused on building Cluster and Infrastructure Lifecycle Management capabilities to deliver a Kubernetes as a service offering that allows their users to run general-purpose Kubernetes workloads.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

We're seeking someone to lead our Workload Infrastructure team, which is responsible for the components that allow Kubernetes clusters to seamlessly integrate with the Supervisor Cluster and underlying infrastructure, spanning container registry, container storage, and container networking. Part of this team's charter is to surface differentiating capabilities, such as integration with the vSphere Pod Service.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • In the first 90 days, you will establish a firm understanding of the Tanzu RMO portfolio, identifying intersections in team processes and skills to drive overall alignment with TKG Service

  • You will partner with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and vSphere with Tanzu leaders to establish a shared vision for the Workload Infra team

  • You will ensure every team member has a career development and growth plan. You will actively work towards identifying growth opportunities for team members

  • You will work with the product leaders to establish quarterly plans and enable the team to execute the plan.

  • You will ensure the team members are actively collaborating with TKG multi-cloud, TMC and vSphere with Tanzu teams to ensure alignment

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • You will build and execute the team’s roadmap in terms of technologies, process improvements, and team enablement.

  • You will recognize team impediments and collaboratively establish processes to address them.

  • You will encourage the team to invest in automation or tooling that increases efficiencies and improves reliability

  • Collaborate with all TKGS scrum coordinators, managers and tech leads to drive day-to-day activities of the Workload Infra team in an Agile/Scrum environment.
