his is a working supervisory position with responsibilities and duties involving the custodial maintenance of airport and tenant facilities. Duties include but are not limited to the supervision of custodial staff in the maintenance and care of airport facilities. This includes the assigning of tasks to be completed by custodial staff. Direction is received from the Airport Custodial Supervisor, or in his/her absence, the Buildings & Utilities Manager. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals, and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment. Days and Hours: Monday - Friday 4:30pm - 1:00am - 2nd Shift


Examples of Work Performed


+ Supervises and assists custodial employees in cleaning of buildings and equipment.


+ As a “working” supervisor, routinely engages in cleaning and custodial duties.


+ Instructs custodial workers in proper cleaning methods and in the use and care of equipment.


+ Makes Minor repairs on building or equipment and reports needed major repairs.


+ Supervises and assists in moving or repairing furniture and equipment as needed.


+ Implements preventive maintenance procedures and programs as directed by Airport Custodial Supervisor.


+ Inspects buildings for cleanliness and thoroughness of work performed and coaches employees regarding methods for improving their work skills.


+ Compiles report of work performed.


+ Prepares written and electronic reports and correspondence.

Requirements of Work


+ Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.


+ Knowledge of hazards and safety requirements of the work.


+ Knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment needed to perform custodial task.


+ Effectively plan, organize and supervise the work of others.


+ Use a computer to access, interpret and record information.


+ Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.


+ Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations and the public.


+ Perform work in a confined space.


+ Tolerate minor exposure to chemical fumes used in custodial work.


+ Empty trash bags/containers weighing up to 40 pounds and lifting them up to 48 inches.


+ Tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with the maintenance and repair of systems common to commercial facilities.


+ Traverse uneven surfaces and walk on improved or unimproved surfaces up to one mile.


+ Stand or walk for up to eight hours per day, excluding rest and lunch breaks.


+ Climb up and down stairs, ladders and other inclined surfaces; bend and kneel.


+ Ability and willingness to work extended hours and holidays during times of critical need.


+ Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shifts, or a variation between 2nd and 3rd shifts.


+ Distinguish colors and brightness accurately during day and night conditions.


+ Tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with the systems common to commercial facilities.


+ Tolerate a work environment that may include jet engine exhaust fumes, inclement weather and windy conditions.


+ Work under sound conditions of up to 100 decibels with ear protection.


+ Pass the federal security background investigation required by the DHS/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to acquire and maintain airport security identification and access control media.


+ Pass required AOA and Airport Security Access training.


+ Ability and willingness to maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations and the public.


+ Acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.


+ An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.


Required Experience and Training


Two years of experience in custodial maintenance work in a commercial or industrial environment. Previous supervisory experience in a custodial environment is preferred. Offers of employment are contingent upon passing mandatory ten-year background investigation that includes employment, driver's license, security threat assessment (STA), criminal history records check (CHRC), and pre-employment physical which includes drug screening. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
