Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Read plans to determine the installation process. This includes materials and dimensions.
+ Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood or wood substitute items such as concrete forms, bracing, scaffolding, panels, decks, and false work.
+ Assist other craft employees as needed
+ Complete any other tasks assigned by your supervisor.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
+ Knowledge of and ability to follow OSHA and Hutton safety protocols.
+ Able to productively work in a team environment.
+ Able to follow directions as specified.
+ Able to do repetitive detailed work as needed.
+ Able to work on school campus jobsites within proximity of children.
+ Able to work out of town for multiple days per week for multiple months.
+ Able to get to and from work utilizing own transportation.
+ Able to shape, cut, drill, handle and erect heavy treated timber caps, clamps, stringers, decking, etc.
+ Must have a working knowledge of rigging to properly move and place heavy loads with crane assistance or other special lifting devices.
+ Able to read blueprints, sketches, or plans to be fabricated.
+ Must be able to layout accurately, using a rule, framing square, plumb bob, level and lasers.
+ Safely operate power tools including, but not limited to: a saw, grinder, roto hammer, power drill, Hilti gun, chain and cable jacks, burning torch, impact wrench, and table saw.
Education and Experience:
+ Experience & education are not required, but preferable.
+ Training opportunities will be available on the job to further advance your skills.
Work Environment:
+ You will work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
+ You are also required to supply the following tools for your own use:
+ Hammer (16 oz. or 22 oz.)
+ Tool belt
+ 25-foot tape measure
+ Retractable utility knife
+ Standard pliers
+ Carpenter trainees are required to supply the tools listed above, plus:
+ Speed square
+ 4-in-1 screwdriver
+ 2-foot carpenter’s level
+ 10-inch or 12-inch adjustable wrench
+ Tie wire reel and wire tying pliers
+ Tool box or bucket
+ General carpenters are required to supply the tools listed above, plus:
+ Tool belt to include nail bags
+ Chalk boxes (one red, one blue)
+ 2-foot and 4-foot carpenter’s levels
+ Nail bar
+ Tin snips
+ 8-point hand saw
+ Highly-skilled carpenters are required to supply the tools listed above, plus:
+ 100-foot tape measure
+ Framing square
+ Plumb bob (minimum 5 oz.)
+ T-handle tap wrench (holder)
+ 8-inch to 12-inch adjustable wrenches
+ Tongue-and-groove pliers (channel locks)
+ Torpedo level
+ Set of wood chisels
+ Nail sets
+ 10-point hand saw
+ Hacksaw
+ Cold chisel
Physical Requirements:
+ Able to do the following with or without accommodations:
+ Lift, push or pull materials weighing up to 80 lbs. (25 lbs. consistently).
+ Walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and squat in cramped or awkward positions on a frequent basis.
+ Climb to unlimited heights on ladders or scaffolds.
+ Operate machinery that vibrates (drills, sanders, jackhammers, etc.) on a repetitive basis.
+ Perform tasks that require gross and fine hand motions and coordination.
+ Perform tasks that require clear and sharp vision.
