Newman University Assistant Professor of Nursing - Maternal/Infant in Wichita, Kansas

Occupational Summary

Undergraduate courses in Maternal/Infant Nursing including both didactic and clinical. Other courses as needed will be assigned to fulfill the teaching load. The teaching load is typically 24 undergraduate credit hours per year. Duties may also include independent studies, conference courses, and cooperative education. This is a 4.5 month contract for Spring 2022 and will transition to a 9 month contract for the 2022-2023 school year.

Faculty members contribute to the effectiveness of the University by working collaboratively on instructional policy, curriculum development, and staff development. Professional involvement is demonstrated by active participation in scholarly activities and professional organizations.

Student service relates to co-curricular activities that assist individual students and student groups beyond the classroom. Service to the institution involves activities that promote University well-being through program development, enrollment growth, resource acquisition, and committee involvement. Service to the community involves activities that contribute to the public welfare and represent the institution positively to the local, regional, national, or global community.

Responsibilities include teaching of the respective content and clinical instruction in hospital and community agencies; participating in nursing program, school and university committees and student advising.

Work Performed:

  • Development and maintaining didactic and clinical education content for assigned courses.

  • I ntegrating mission values and the Strategic Plan of the University within individual courses and academic programs .

  • Creating and maintaining an optimal learning environment that attracts and retains students.

  • Teaching assigned classes effectively and assessing educational outcomes appropriately.

  • Maintaining high standards as teachers and engaging students in classroom, studio, laboratory, clinical educational settings, and co-curricular activities.

  • Maintaining high standards as scholars and demonstrating competency in their fields through both academic pursuits and professional involvement.

  • Advising and mentoring students effectively.

  • Maintaining a minimum of five (5) office hours per week and posting specific hours on the office door.

  • Participating in collaborative governance of the University through involvement in department, school, and faculty meetings, and by serving on department, School, University, and faculty committees.

  • Representing the University through service on campus and in the larger community.

  • Participating in Fall and Winter Institute, Convocations, Baccalaureate services, and Commencement exercises.

  • Assisting the Library Director in curriculum-driven collection development and by promoting library involvement among students.

  • Promoting the use of information technology through instructional activities and class assignments.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

    Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Doctorate in nursing preferred, or Masters in nursing required from an accredited institution. Nursing background related to the specialty area of teaching is required

  • Three years of professional nursing experience in the clinical environment with exposure to direct patient care

  • Experience in didactic and clinical education preferred

  • Must hold a current Kansas professional nursing license or ability to obtain a license within 60 days of hire

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
