The successful candidate for this position must have a strong commitment to safety, be self-motivated, and be able to perform required duties without constant supervision. This is a skilled position requiring employee to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in spreading, rolling, compacting, and patching asphalt or similar material to form surfaces of highways, streets, parking lots, aircraft landing strips, driveways, etc.
+ Ensure the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
+ Train new crew members.
+ Calculate the number of trucks required to haul asphalt from the hot plant according to vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from work site, and productivity of drivers.
+ Tour job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and to supervise the job.
+ Supervise and coordinate crew activities, studying production schedules, and estimating work requirements for completion of job assignment in compliance with or beating the job estimate.
+ Maintain time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
+ Recommend measures to improve productions methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
+ Will directly supervise asphalt paving employees.
+ Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
+ Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
+ High school diploma or its equivalent plus at least three years of experience (construction background desired): or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
+ Previous experience in operating various types of heavy mobile equipment is preferred but not required.
+ Requires solid knowledge and understanding of proper operation and capabilities of the equipment.
+ Must be able to recognize various aggregates and rap products by sight and understand proper plant operation.
+ Previous experience operating a drum mix or batch asphalt plant desired.
+ Good mechanical repair, accurate math skills and communications skills are required.
+ Previous computer experience is preferred.
+ Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the desire to seek solutions
+ Ability to maintain composure in all situations
+ Must be a strong team player and gain the trust and support of peers
+ Current legal Kansas Driver’s license
+ I-9 certification
+ Lift plant components up to 50 pounds; be able to climb stairs, ladders and work at heights of up to 100 feet; and have the ability to move in a variety of body positions.
+ Must have ability to think logically and problem solve.
+ Must possess good perceptual skills used in judging distances. The employee is regularly required to sit; stand; motor skills to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear.
