Support Technician - Quality Department - 1st Shift - Wamego, KS
Performs visual, mechanical, and nondestructive test and inspection of assembled, fabricated, and purchased parts; investigates quality problems to isolate source, and initiate changes to correct problems to ensure CWTS' compliance to quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspects units, piece parts, and assemblies to find defects.
Performs nondestructive testing under the supervision if an NDT Level III.
Collects and charts data for use of statistical process control.
Researches defects the source of the problem.
Interacts with Engineering Department for interpretation of prints and tolerances. Checks to show and explain quality needs.
Recommends changes in fabrication procedures.
Recommends changes to prints and/or bill of material.
Designs go-no go gauges to improve production needs. Assists in the determination of the most efficient way to rework product to minimize cost and time.
The position is a specialist within the group and provides interpretation and problem solving advice to others inside and outside of the department.
Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division.
The position's primary customers are internal.
The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems which may not be obvious.
The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions.
Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Internal Quality Certification, etc.
The position establishes quality standards consistent with overall quality goals.

1-year vocational program after high school and three to five years of job-related experience.
B eginner level computer skills at minimum
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, industry codes, and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of mangers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to operations on such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications. Ability to interpret written standards and apply them to real life situations. Perform visual inspection and measurements, and then use that information to determine acceptability.
Ability to communicate effectively up and down the chain of command to deliver message of conformity to standards.
TOP CANDIDATES WILL ALSO HAVE:
Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
Previous experience in a quality team environment.
Direct interaction with Welding, Machining, Fabrication, and Painting experience is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of various engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance standards and practices and various Caterpillar systems. Ability to utilize a variety of computer software packages. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. By law, required certifications or licenses: BDT and AWS.
Experience in Microsoft applications including Excel and Outlook preferred
Experience in JD Edwards software experience preferred
This position will be a blended responsibility, 50% Piece Part Pre Deliver Inspection, 25% Records Clerk, 25% Warehouse/Paint QA Technician.
Shift: 1st Shift - Full Time
Hours: Monday - Thursday, 5:00 am 3:30 pm + possible overtime on Fridays
Starting pay rate: $22.42
Work location: Wamego, KS
