Summary/Objective:
To provide technical expertise, guidance, and ownership of all welding-related activities for the facility and serves as an enterprise resource for welding-related activities. The Facility Certified Weld Inspector is a functional position that is required by customer specified Arc Welding specifications and standards for all fabrication facilities. This role is essential in maintaining the required quality level in welded structures and components. This role can be filled as part of the responsibilities of a supervisor/manager, or it can be a focused position.
Essential Functions:
- Requires a high degree of experience and expertise in various or specific fields of welding such as welding process, field repair, welding quality, metallurgy, etc.
- Must have a good understanding of product design to combine with process design expertise to provide for improved manufacturability of parts and major components.
- This position is the Process Owner of the Facility Weld Quality Plan.
- Responsible for completing and maintaining all aspects of the weld quality plan including welder, weld process, weld equipment, and welding materials qualifications to all applicable standards.
- Responsible to see that the welding procedure database as well as a database for welder qualifications are maintained and up to date.
- Makes the final determination on additional training and qualification of welders who have been identified as having quality concerns.
- Maintains a scorecard on Weld Quality Plan implementation and reports progress and issues to the facility management team as stakeholders in the process.
- Acts as liaison between engineering and manufacturing on welding related issues.
- Liaison with fabrication suppliers on welding related issues to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems or operations to produce quality products.
- Coordinates the implementation of innovative technology in the facility.
- Develops individual presentations on all integration projects and prepares and establishes priorities for cost effectiveness.
- Performs liaison duties with various functional areas to promote smooth transition.
- Conduct and/or review welding related failure analysis.
- Represents the facility and enterprise on external welding related committees.
- Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, and ergonomics in performing assigned duties.
Job Qualifications:
- Effectively be able to communicate with internal and external customers.
- Able to run and complete parts using ERP Software.
- Able to add, subtract, divide and multiply all units of measure, including fractions, whole numbers, decimals and percentages.
- Able to understand Excel programs.
- Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Able to solve problems and deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
