What You'll Do:

  • Responsibilities will focus on field support of corn, soybeans, sorghum, and wheat- planting, harvest, plot maintenance.

  • Responsibilities for equipment operations, maintenance, and general upkeep. Equipment troubleshooting and keeping pace with new technologies in equipment needs is paramount. This includes tractors, planters, sprayers, forklifts, and research combines.

  • Required conceptual knowledge of plant sciences.

  • Assist with breeding program and research seed production activities, including seed preparation for planting, pollinating, purification, and combine/hand harvest, these are critical times for the success of the research program. Weekend and overtime work will be required at these times.

  • Computer skills and the use of Corteva proprietary software for completing these tasks will be a component. The handling of large volumes of data will be required via data uploads. Basic Microsoft knowledge or ability to learn Microsoft Office tools.

  • Effectively communicate with the Wamego, KS research center staff, and other researchers to ensure safe operation, proper data collection procedures are followed, timelines are met, and quality data is entered for advancement decisions.

  • Monitor on- and off-site research and research seed production locations throughout the growing season and communicate field conditions to research center managers, this ensures fields are weed-free, and data collection and harvest activities occur in a timely fashion resulting in quality data.

  • May be requested to assist in executing plots at other Research sites

  • May be requested to maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.

  • Make daily decisions associated with maintaining plots and locations

  • Decide priority of work activities.

What Skills You Need:

  • Appropriate technical or agricultural degree with 2 – 4 years experience in related field or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills.

  • Broad theoretical grounding and understanding in specialized or technical areas (mechanics, agronomy, precision agriculture)

  • May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.

  • Drivers license required.
