This job was posted by https://www.kansasworks.com : For more information, please see: https://www.kansasworks.com/ada/r/jobs/11298936 **Position Type:** Special Education Paraeducators/Early Childhood Development (ECD)**Location:** Valley Center Abilene Elementary**Date Available:** As soon as available**Job ID:** 1362**Purpose Statement**The job of Paraeducator Moderate / Severe is done for the purpose/s of providing support, under the direction and supervision of a licensed staff member, to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with at-risk students one-on-one when necessary; following educational and specific behavioral plans; documenting daily activities of students; modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with student and staff; monitoring student behavior during non- classroom time; providing information to appropriate school personnel; and attending meetings, as scheduled. This job reports to the licensed special education teacher(s).These positions can be for the full school day Monday/Tuesday, Thursday/Friday beginning the 20/21 school year or 1/2 day Monday/Tuesday, Thursday/Friday depending on student needs. **Essential Functions*** Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives while working under the direction of the licensed staff member.* Attends a variety of meetings (e.g. staff meetings, in-services, workshops, first aid, CPI, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and conveying information relative to job functions.* Communicates with a variety of individuals (e.g. supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, etc.) for the purpose of implementing IEP objectives and assisting in evaluating progress.* Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance (e.g. diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs while developing children's daily living activities and behavioral skills.* Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students for the purpose of helping students maintain personal hygiene.* Documents student's daily activities (e.g. behavior, completed assignments, on and off task times, etc.) for the purpose of completing daily logs and student's hourly activities.* Evaluates situations involving students interacting with others (e.g. staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of taking action and providing referral for resolution.Implements behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts.* Maintains a variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. daily log, reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written reference and recording progress towards IEP goals and objectives.* Models desired behaviors (e.g. conversation, manners, cleaning activities, listening, everyday interactions, etc.) for students for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.* Monitors student's daily schedule and behavior plan (e.g. class schedule, toileting, medication, appetite, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.* Provides academic support to students (e.g. reading, writing, verbal skills, etc.) for the purpose of implementing IEP goals, assisting in adapting to mainstream classrooms, and ensuring students success.* Remains with student at all times for the purpose of providing for the safety of student, removing student when necessary, and de-escalating situations outside the classroom.* Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, bullying, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to State Law and school policies as a mandated reporter.* Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.* Restrains students in certain circumstances (e.g. out of control student, violent student, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment for students and staff. **Other Functions**Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. **Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications****SKILLS** are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; analyzing situations and taking appropriate action; and adhering to safety practices. **KNOWLEDGE** is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentiles, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
