This position can be based in our New York City office, Reston VA Office, or via remote work arrangement.
About the Team
The BigFuture team is committed to supporting all students to make the right first step post high school. BigFuture reaches over 7M students each year and is the leading free resource for College, Scholarship, and Career Exploration. BigFuture allows students to demystify the college going process, unlock options to afford college, and explore careers that connect to their skills and interests. In addition to the student facing platform, the team manages a service that fosters rich interactions between students and the over 1,500 Higher Education institutions. These institutions look across the 25,000 high schools to round out their classes and reach a broad student population. BigFuture has a 25-person core team and collaborates deeply with other divisions including Sales, Marketing, Finance, Technology, Legal, and Strategic Higher Education.
About the Opportunity
In this role, you are a change agent, a catalyst. You are not meant to be comfortable with the status quo. You are meant to help BigFuture, the College Board and the ecosystem to understand how to make better, more fulfilling and earlier matches between students and Higher Education. You will work tirelessly with the team, using quantitative and qualitative data to understand student's pain points in the college application process. You are a champion of clarity. You are a force for simplicity and a trusted guide for high school students. You also understand that the line between high school, higher education and career is blurring. You know students want to make more informed decisions about their careers earlier, as early as high school. You will help build the first ever robust career search tool, to help all students understand their path post high school, not just the well-worn path to a 4-year college.
In this role, you will:
Team Leadership and Management
+ Set product vision and direction for a team of 10 with 2 direct reports, including clear goals, objectives, and KPIs
+ Provide coaching and support to ensure they meet their goals, remain engaged, and contribute meaningfully to our mission
+ Optimize all processes and procedures to ensure team's efficiency and effectiveness
+ Lead an Agile team while guiding the team through a successful transition to Agile
Market Landscape Understanding
+ Gather market data and user feedback consistently to shape the product roadmap and improve user experience
+ Stay on top of trends in the market and key market requirements
+ Track competitive offerings and alternative solutions in the market
Product Portfolio Vision and Roadmap
+ Identify, foster, curate, and drive hypothesis testing to validate with users
+ Collaborate with Technology to determine flexible product architectures, Partnerships to identify third party organizations that accelerate product vision and Design to ideate BigFuture product concepts.
+ Ensure alignment of portfolio roadmap to market needs and organizational/program goals and priorities
+ Strike a balance between delivering on our student-first mission while also delivering value to Higher Ed institutions
Deliver the Highest Priority Features
+ Manage the intake of new priorities or changes to existing priorities, evaluating the impact of changing course and working with key stakeholders to maintain focus
+ Collaborate with product managers to define roadmaps and gain a shared understanding of work within productteams backlogs
+ Collaborate with product managers to glean insights from user and product data to help shape the direction of the product roadmap and prioritization
Lead New Product Development
+ Develop business case and rationale for new product investments
+ Lead cross-functional teams to deliver new product offering into the market.
+ Collaborate with teams across the organization to develop a go-to-market strategy and launch plan.
+ At least 12 years of Product Management leadership experience
+ Experience managing a portfolio of products serving a large and varied consumer market.
+ Experience building subscription products.
+ Experience leading, managing, and mentoring a team of product managers and product owners
+ Experience managing a product from inception through design to implementation and launch
+ Experience leading an Agile product development team and managing the backlog of a full product team (research, design, content, development)
