Help chart the course for secure database technology at American Express! We need top technical talent to grow our Database Engineering team. This team defines, designs, implements, tests and communicates the architectures, configurations, best practices and standards for optimal use of database technologies across the company, both on-premises and in the cloud. We evaluate new and upgraded database versions, features, components and extensions for performance, throughput, scalability, availability and security; and we partner with our hosting, database administration, and operational support teams to operationalize and harden OLTP technology for our top-tier financial and customer engagement applications.
This posting is for a software/infrastructure engineer with experience in security. As software becomes more complicated and attack surfaces grow, and the sophistication of attacks grows concurrently, it’s more important than ever that we ensure the confidentiality, availability and integrity of our customers’ data and financial well-being. Thus, our Database Engineering team is hiring a full-time security professional to focus exclusively on database security. The successful candidate will bring knowledge and experience in cybersecurity to the database space to improve our database security posture in identity and access management, encryption, certificate and secrets management, data activity monitoring, intrusion detection and prevention, and vulnerability management. The candidate will collaborate with our enterprise security experts to extend the shield of our best security practices to cover our database space, and in so doing will help define and evolve our company’s overall security strategy for the future. The candidate will also work with our technology-specific database engineers and project managers to inject security improvement initiatives into the technology-specific workstreams for multiple database types including Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, Couchbase, Cassandra and MongoDB.
Along with a passion for security, the candidate will bring a working knowledge of one or more database technologies as a foundational attribute. However, the primary prerequisite skillset for this position is security; the candidate can learn more about databases while on the job.
Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably with an IT security specialization, preferred.
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
