Oracle Senior Network Developer (JoinOCI-NDC) in Topeka, Kansas
Job Description
Supports the design, deployment, and operations of a large-scale global Oracle cloud computing environment (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - OCI). Primarily focused on development and support of network fabric and systems through a combination of a deep level understanding of networking at the protocol level coupled with programming skills to support the intensive automation required to operate a production environment. As OCI is a cloud-based network with a global footprint, this support will include hundreds of thousands of network devices supporting millions of servers, connected over a mix of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet.
Participate in optical network lifecycle management programs, new deployments and augments of existing optical network. Organizes project technical milestones & supporting tasks. Advises project/program manager and coordinates with immediate and skip-level leadership. Collaborates across teams within same org (same VP). May serve as technical SME in cross-functional activities. Has technical responsibility for moderately complex project(s), including project requirements, specifications (where applicable), and documentation. Responsible for decomposing high-level architectures into detailed designs. Work with supporting service teams to ensure solutions are properly supported by monitoring and automation systems. Serves at Tier2 or specialized escalation point for network events and provides break-fix support for large-scale events.
Responsibilities
Participate in Network lifecycle management through network build and/or upgrade projects. Collaborate with program/project managers to develop milestones and deliverables. Will primarily use existing procedures and tools to develop and safely execute network change. However, may have to develop new procedures from time to time. Serve as technical lead for team projects. Contributes to the development of roadmap issues. Leads development of new runbooks and method of procedures. Participates in network solution and architecture design process. Responsibility for developing standalone features. Participate in operational rotations as either primary or secondary. Provide break-fix support for events. Serve as escalation point for event remediation. Lead post-event root cause analysis. Coordinate with networking automation services for the development and integration of support tooling. Frequently develops scripts to automate routine tasks for team and business unit. Serves as SME on software development projects for network automation. Supports network vendor software bug fixes. Collaborate with network vendor technical account team and internal Quality Assurance team to drive bug resolution and assist in the qualification of new firmware and/or operating systems.
The Roles & Responsibilities of this job will include:
Participate in Optical Architecture tactical and strategic discussion
Develop engineering skills inside of Optical Engineering and in peer groups.
Work with deployment teams and data center operations providing support during new capacity additions and changes on the optical network.
Own optical network infrastructure documentation, responsible for updating and maintaining network drawings and plans for both operational purposes and new builds.
Create and maintain optical network designs for metro DWDM systems.
Work with the engineering team to define optical standards and best practices for deployment.
Maximizing network performance by troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
Participate in FOA and field trials of new platforms and technologies.
Work with the network qualification team to test and incorporate net platforms into the network.
Contribute code with development teams for foundations of automation tools with a perspective of transport systems and operational best practices.
Plan and implement network changes in a high availability environment.
Work with Implementation teams for DWDM deployment and validation.
Work with Network Operation Center providing technical support for Optical services.
Review OTDR/CD/PMD test reports for inside plant and outside plant fiber acceptance
Product & Technology
In depth knowledge of optical technology ROADM, OTN, Optical Switching and architecture.
Working knowledge of major DWDM Transport vendors both hardware and software.
Great business acumen to connect technical benefits to profit margins.
Document the existing technology portfolio and propose recommendations for improvements and / or alternative
Evaluate current and emerging network and infrastructure technologies for optimization & cost efficacies.
Manage architectural risk mitigations, issue escalation, and resolution processes
Knowledge of network management, provisioning, and service orchestration tools.
Detail knowledge of testing and troubleshooting including experience with test equipment such as OTDR, OSA, BERT, and optical power meters.
Understanding of high order modulation, flex grid technology, and CDC systems.
Good understanding of the component level operation of optical devices such as modulators, couplers, transponders, AWGs, DCMs
Ability to troubleshoot a variety of physical layer problems involving pluggable optics and overall interoperation of different layer 1 technologies.
Experience with physical fiber plant design and deployment both inside the plant and outside plant standards and methods.
Experience at scale in the deployment of data center interconnect metro DWDM solutions
Multi-vendor networking hardware experience including Infinera, Ciena, Cisco & Nokia.
Hands-on Experience with deploying networks including the configuration of network devices, DWDM, ROADM, and OTN.
Knowledge of scripting.

Education Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Information Engineering / Electronics Engineering /Physics or equivalent
6-8 years of proven experience in Optical network planning, design, implementation, managing networks.
Knowledge of DWDM, ROADM networks and optical transport technologies
Knowledge of IP routing and routing protocols, L2 switching is an asset
Exceptional troubleshooting, event correlation, and trending skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages
Experience testing python with Jenkins
Experience working within Lean / Agile frameworks
Knowledge of Ansible or other automation toolchains
Knowledge of Jenkins, Bamboo, or other CI/CD Tools
Understanding of TCP/IP spanning tree protocol and sub-netting
Experience working in a Cloud or Hosting environment

California Pay Range: from $95,900 to $192,000 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Colorado Pay Range: from $90,600 to $172,800 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
New York City Pay Range: from $90,600 to $182,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Washington Pay Range: from $101,300 to $182,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
