Responsibilities

Senior Consultant, you will be a member of our Healthcare Public/payer practice and part of a team responsible for solving the most complex and strategic issues faced by commercial and public health. Typically, Senior Consultants work on multiple assignments at any given time and receive exposure to a broad range of healthcare projects, including: strategic planning, healthcare managed care models, financial /risk modeling, and strategic Actuarial service offerings. You will be working on a variety of small project teams at the office providing regular mentorship from seasoned Guidehouse Consultants as well as some work at clients allowing you access to senior client executives.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist seasoned consultants in developing project approach, strategies, and work plans.

  • Participate in actuarial analytics (including methodologies, model development and modifications), industry reporting and research

  • Typical project areas include (but not limited to) actuarially sound capitation rate-setting, determining and measuring managed care plan effectiveness, risk-adjustment methods, medical cost trend management, and forecasting.

  • Perform detailed, quantitative analysis; build Excel models; and prepare operational and financial projections.

  • Conduct stakeholder interviews.

  • Supply data and/or quantitative info. that develops project findings and recommendations.

  • Prepare project materials and reports.

  • Work with the larger teams and as well as take the lead on presentation of final deliverables that go to client sponsors.

  • Assist in design and implementation of recommended solutions.

  • Work with several project teams and Guidehouse Associate Directors and Executives

  • Effectively communicate with Guidehouse management and client staff

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial sciences or business administration, with an emphasis in math or statistical disciplines from accredited university

  • 3+ years of applicable professional experience (e.g.,health plan or state managed care actuary and/or healthcare consulting experience)

  • Must be on an actuarial career path (i.e. has taken or is studying to take professional exams towards achieving the ASA designation)

  • Experience developing analytical models and structuring methodologies

  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills and strong data analytics background (financial modeling/planning skills a Plus)

  • Demonstrated management of smaller work streams or deliverables

  • Advanced mastery of excel with experience in formatting, formulas, pivot tables, etc.

  • Ability to travel post COVID 50%

    Preferred

  • Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL), SAS, or other third generation programming language (R, STATA, Python) is preferred

  • Ability to work overtime as necessary

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in value-based payment arrangements such as Medicare Advantage/Managed Care, risk contracting, shared savings arrangements, and/or post acute care consulting.

  • Significant knowledge of the healthcare industry

  • Track record of strong client service

  • Proven track record of solving complex problems and completing challenging projects

  • Understanding of data warehousing and ETL techniques

  • Certification(s) in a programming languages or other areas related to data analytics

  • Track record of strong client service

  • Proven track record of solving complex problems and completing challenging projects

  • Additional qualifications include efficiency, flexibility, innovative problem-solving skills, a high level of motivation, and excellent organizational skills. Must be able to work well independently and within team structures.

  • This position is open to candidate virtually from EST, CST, PST time zone as well as AZ, UT.
