Job Description:


As the leader of our North American payroll, the candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management, and timely processing of payroll. Applicant should be proactive, highly motivated, and self-directed with high standards and expectations for their team.

This role will be responsible for driving operational efficiency across all responsible areas, implementing and maintaining an appropriate control environment, ensuring compliance with company and accounting policies, ownership of core systems, and designing and executing process improvements.

Candidate will supervise 3+ direct reports, and manage payroll for over 3,300 exempt and non-exempt employees in the United States and Canada.

Detailed Responsibilities:


  • Manages all aspects of the United States/Canadian payroll processes with multiple pay groups made up of over 3,300 employees, including exempt and non-exempt, as well as commission payouts.

  • Maintains payroll systems and reports any issues to management.

  • Supervises personnel involved in payroll and ensures the best financial practices are adhered to.

  • Audits payroll transactions to ensure that amounts, payment dates, and taxes are accurate and up to date.

  • Prepares year-end W-2’s and related amendments.

  • Manages stock option/RSU payments and other benefit feeds (e.g. 401k).

  • Ensures payroll processes complies with federal tax laws.

  • Attends any payroll-related queries or questions from employees.

  • Focuses on process improvement and harmonization of processes.

  • Provides subject matter expertise on payroll process design, process implementation, and organizational change.

  • Monitors and ensures monthly close deliverables are met and supports the annual audit, quarterly reviews, and any internal audit or process review projects.

  • Creates ad-hoc reports and analyses as required.

  • Ensures adequate internal controls are implemented and monitored, including SOX compliance.

  • Supports hiring, on-boarding, professional development, and performance management of the team.

Process Improvement

  • Proactively identifies, research, and recommends improvements to systems, structures, procedures, and practices within the department to ensure efficient and effective business operations and implement changes once approved.

  • Implements and manages specific processes to ensure the business maximizes financial returns and minimizes risk.

  • Leverage, learn, and uses EBS tools.

  • Provides subject matter expertise on strategic initiatives that impact the area.

  • Plans and supervises projects within the department.

  • Organizes relevant TPI/Kaizen events on a regular basis for process improvements.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Human Resource Management, or a similar field.

  • 10+ years work experience in a multi-pay group, global organization.

  • Manages a team of 3+ direct reports, with over 3,300 exempt and non-exempt employees.

  • Relevant experience with a U.S. public multinational company.

Preferred Skills:

  • MBA preferred.

  • Certified Payroll Professional certification a plus.

  • Excellent knowledge of payroll and HR software. Experience with ADP PayForce, ADP eTIME, and Workday a plus.

  • Familiarity with labor legislation and federal tax laws.

  • The ability to ethically work with employee-sensitive information.

  • Experience with managing payroll taxes for expats.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with team members.

  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills.

  • Results-oriented with a focus on achieving overall business objectives.

  • Change management-oriented (embraces challenges).

  • Has the innate ability to inspire passion in others.

  • Previous experience with large, automated accounting and reporting systems (preferable Oracle, SAP, and HFM).

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (especially Excel) required.

  • Working knowledge of SOX, controls, and procedures.

  • Must be hands-on and highly motivated.
