The Role

The Senior Manager Labor Relations develops, and leads in executing, proactive labor/management relations strategies and actions to ensure productive labor and employee relations and to enable business priorities to be achieved. Partners with other HR functional areas and leads the business to ensure Lumen is a world class organization relative to labor relations.

Provides day-to-day and strategic labor relations consultation and support to leaders of union-represented employees. Engages regional union leadership to discuss and bargain over day-to-day and complex issues and to work toward creative solutions.

  • Ability to work independently and build/implement tactics utilizing corporate resources

  • Proven experience in negotiations preparation, bargaining, implementation and administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements. Also, demonstrated ability to negotiate under dynamic and adverse conditions with a strategic forward-thinking and resilient approach

  • Dedication to develop effective professional relations with union leadership

  • Practical knowledge and proven employment-related practices such as grievance advocacy, arbitrations and agency charges

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Have a minimum 8 years of experience in either an HR/Labor Relations role in a union environment or in a management position supervising union personnel (or both)

  • Experience at the table in contract negotiations, contract administration and interpretation, investigations, and grievance handling

  • Direct understanding and ability to apply all aspects of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) as well as employment and human resources related laws, regulations, policies, principles, concepts and practices, including but not limited to Title VII, EEO, ADA and FMLA; and, associated employment laws

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or equivalent
