Eaton Corporation Senior Design Engineer in Topeka, Kansas

Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team, to support the Modular Solutions portfolio of offerings. This position will be based remotely based near one of Eaton’s facilities, in one of the states listed.

Position Overview:

This position will report to the Modular Solutions Program Manager. This position will be the engineering lead for our Modular Solutions team which provides integrated electrical distribution systems, Integrated Critical backup power systems, and Integrated Skid Mounted Substations. Primary involvement will be during concept and proposal development, but will also include some project execution engineering design phases. This position will provide engineering design work, and engineering leadership discipline-specific (T&D, Microgrid, PD, UPS, etc.) engineers to create complete designs including both electrical system design and mechanical layout packages. The SDE is responsible for managing design deliverables to maintain project schedule, design budget, design accuracy, and submittal completeness working in concert with other engineers and designers.

In this function you will:

  • Interpret project specifications and provide a detailed specification response with support from application engineers; assist sales with technical proposals/bid packages.

  • Be a liaison for the Modular Solutions business to internal and external customers.

  • Interface with vendors and purchasing team on requesting quotes. Develop vendor requirements as part of RFQ to vendors. Review pricing and technical response of vendors to ensure scope of supply is well defined and adequately addressed in bid.

  • Perform engineering system concept development and design for customized modular solutions to include UPS systems, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, battery energy storage, and other electrical infrastructure equipment as required to meet basic customer requirements.

  • Develop and improve test plans and inspection check sheets to ensure quality of final delivered solution. Provide oversight and direction for testing and inspections both at the factory, at integrators, and at customer sites as needed.

  • Ability to present training and/or guidance to customers on the operation and maintenance of the supplied modular solution.

  • Interface with Project Execution teams for system applications and order summary information.

  • Lead the technical execution of assigned projects in partnership with the assigned Project Manager for project hand-off and continue to provide support through final commissioning as required.

  • Contribute to Modular Solutions product management product roadmap with support of Product Manager

  • Contribute feedback on form, fit, function of proposed designs in design reviews

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) from an accredited program.

  • 5 years of related electrical industry experience in design and/or construction projects

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license

  • Experience with AutoCAD

  • Working knowledge of 3D Modeling software such as Inventor, or similar

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of related electrical industry experience in design and/or construction projects

  • Experience with the integration of UPS systems, switchgear, switchboards, and other electrical equipment onto skids (transportable foundation) or within an enclosure

  • Experience providing technical support to product sales teams

  • Experience with proposal development in all of Eaton's end markets (Industrial, Commercial, Data Center, Healthcare, Utility, Institutional and Government).

  • Experience sizing HVAC equipment for cooling electrical equipment

  • Experience specifying batteries for UPS applications, including lithium ion technology

Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices. The annual salary range for this role is $75476 - $103779 a year
