Merck Senior Appian Developer/Architect (Remote) in Topeka, Kansas

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Appian Developer/Architect who is passionate about collaborating across the various IT and scientific research, process, and discovery teams in the life-science space.

General tasks:

  • Become part of a creative software engineering team at one of our Company's scientific engineering IT groups.

  • Is passionate about science and engineering, as well as excited to learn new things.

  • Work closely with biologists, chemical engineers, pharmacologists, clinical study and experiment managers to comprehend and translate engineering requirements for scientific workflows.

  • Design and implement engineering solutions that facilitate research processes and scientific discovery in all areas of drug discovery.

  • Partner with IT teams (HPC + Cloud platform infrastructure engineering) to deliver best fit solutions to on-premises datacenters and to the cloud (AWS).

  • Has collaborated with cross-functional teams; work in agile methodologies.

  • Provide demos and be comfortable presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards, functional as well as non-functional requirements.

  • Convey progress effectively in stand-ups; work in planning sessions and dedicate to sprints.

  • Strong partnership, organization, and communication skills.

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Software development/design tasks:

  • Contribute to and drive requirements gathering and product discovery discussions with stakeholders to comprehend their business processes and technical needs.

  • Design conceptual workflows, related actions, and various dependency modules.

  • Design and build relational data as well as non-relational (big) data models to be used in production workflows.

  • Develop APIs to integrate with multiple systems (built in-house as well as 3rd party).

  • Analyze, design, implement, integrate, and test custom software solutions, Appian applications and workflows using Appian’s low-code platform.

Prerequisites :

  • B.S./B.A./M.S. in Engineering, or Computer Science, or an equivalent field.

General software development experience:

  • 2+ years in translating business process software requirement specifications into prototypes and solutions.

  • Knowledge of software testing practice.

  • Practical knowledge of agile software development practices.

Appian centric experience:

  • 5 + years in building and delivering end-to-end software solutions, built with Appian application architecture, and designing principles.

  • Preference for someone who has worked with Appian cloud.

  • Has monitored and identified risks from Appian health checks.

  • Worked with Appian 20.1 and later versions.

  • Proven ability to write complex Appian SAIL expressions (expertise other than just drag and drop).

Data model experience:

  • 3+ years with designing relational data schemas and models, such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.

  • 3+ years developing REST/SOAP APIs and API based integrations.

High level language/framework programming:

  • 3+ years with building production tools/applications using either Java/Spring (preferred), .Net Core, .Net Framework, Python/Django, Groovy/Grails, etc...

Nice to have:

  • CI / CD experience.

  • Worked with the Atlassian toolkit (Stash, JIRA, Confluence).
