Nelnet Senior Accountant in Topeka, Kansas

Lead and maintain processes for Revenue accounting activities and reconciliations for Nelnet Campus Commerce. Assist with the design and implementation of technology and workflows for purposes of automating invoicing and related reporting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead billing and collections efforts for Nelnet Campus Commerce.

  2. Design and implement continuous process improvement solutions for invoicing accuracy and completeness.

  3. Work with external organizations and internal departments on project initiatives and various accounting issues.

  4. Maintain and complete policies and procedures in accordance with the Company’s internal controls.

  5. Assist with oversight, training, and review of accounting activities and reconciliations.

  6. Lead efforts for Accounting team with customer and supplier activity, including inquiries as needed.

  7. Assist with compiling and responding to requests related to required financial and service audits.

  8. Assist with ad hoc project and reporting requests.

  9. Manage expectations through consistent and timely project updates.

  10. Assist with monitoring and implementing new accounting guidance as determined applicable to the Company.

EDUCATION:

  1. 4-year degree in Business Administration/Accounting.

  2. CPA preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. 5+ years accounting experience.

  2. Experience in Revenue Accounting.

  3. Experience with Power BI, Tableau or other business intelligence tools.

  4. Experience with bank payments and credit card processing preferred.

  5. Experience with Workday preferred.

  1. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to create Excel documents using a variety of formulas and Excel tools.

  2. Strong Accountability for work: timely completion of tasks, working with manager to develop and achieve position goals, communication of task/project delays.

  3. High standards for productivity with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

  4. Strong Analytical and problem-solving ability. Initiative to troubleshoot problems independently.

  5. Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

  6. Ability to work with a team or independently with initiative and appropriate supervision.

  7. Confident oral and written communication skills. Effectively communicates with and engages all levels of the organization from peers to executive management both verbally and in writing.

  8. Strong interpersonal skills.

  9. Mastery of complex accounting concepts and strong knowledge of GAAP and specialized accounting concepts like revenue recognition.
