Ford Motor Company Research Engineer in Topeka, Kansas
We are looking for a Research Engineer – Diesel Controls for our Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering Team.
Ford’s research and advanced engineering organization is seeking qualified candidates to join our team to develop control and diagnostic algorithms that support future diesel programs. The diesel controls team is a vibrant group of engineers responsible for researching the control systems and diagnostic strategies that help make Ford vehicles environmentally responsible while delivering the performance customers expect. Successful candidates for this position will have demonstrated experience designing and delivering control software for dynamic systems and a passion for attaining a deep understanding of interrelated vehicle systems.
What you will be able to do
Responsibilities will include development and implementation of control and diagnostic algorithms for engine-related systems in future diesel programs in the US and globally. An engineer in this position will:
Build and release Rapid Prototype SW levels for development testing
Deploy control algorithms to embedded controllers (rapid prototyping and production ECU)
Use MATLAB/Simulink to create embedded control software
Develop, test, and validate new embedded controls and diagnostics for diesel programs, including fuel system, air path and exhaust aftertreatment in modeling environments
Create software requirements, specifications, and validation plans
Perform verification of the controls and control systems via control calibration and vehicle testing
Work closely with downstream customers to validate the application of the control and diagnostic solutions and develop requirements, optimization models and calibration guides
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field or a combination of education and equivalent experience
3+ years of experience developing control algorithms for mechanical or electrical systems
3+ of experience with MATLAB/Simulink tools for data analysis, model development and software development (course work included)
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
1 year of power train controls system experience or related coursework
1 year of experience testing software in embedded hardware
Familiarity with control development and calibration tools including MATLAB / Simulink, dSpace, Vector CANalyzer, ETAS INCA, and ATI Vision
Demonstrated data analysis and control/diagnostic feature simulation skills
Working knowledge of programming in C/C++ Familiarity with systems engineering based problem solving
Excellent written/oral communication skills
Proven ability to work well with others as part of a diverse global team
