The Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division of PNNL is accelerating the transition to a decarbonized, efficient, resilient, and secure energy system through basic and applied research. The Distributed Systems Group (DSG) is focused on designing, testing, and applying edge solutions to enhance the resiliency and efficiency of our Nation's infrastructure and of distributed sites that rely on that infrastructure, while paving the way for integrating large numbers of devices into a holistic energy system.
The Distributed Systems Group is seeking a Post Masters Research Assistant to support a portfolio of distributed energy research. Successful candidates will have a strong collaborative background, and experience analyzing distributed energy systems through mixed-method approaches. The selected candidate will be expected to support a range of analytical, technical, and written research in support of a more equitable, low-carbon grid. The position will work on complex problems in policy, technology deployment, and technical and strategic stakeholder engagement by integrating solutions in interdisciplinary domains. This position will largely support PNNL’s portfolio of distributed wind energy projects and will be mentored by research engineers with rich industry and research experiences.
Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Write scientific papers that address a range of distributed wind energy topics, including workforce development and energy equity.
Support stakeholder engagement and outreach efforts to identify streamlined solutions that increase successful technology deployment.
Analyze the domestic distributed wind energy market through data collection and analysis.
Support international collaboration in distributed wind energy areas of interest.
Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.
Knowledge and experience with data analysis, geospatial analysis, decision analysis using Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS, or programs such as R or Python.
Interest in energy equity, energy planning, energy modeling, policy design, technology deployment, electricity markets and economics.
Degree in engineering, technical energy field, sustainability, or interdisciplinary approaches to energy.
Data, quantification, and metrics associated with energy technologies and resources.
Strong writing and communication skills.
