Nexstar Media Group Newscast Director in Topeka, Kansas

27 News and FOX 43 News are seeking a full-time Newscast Director to manage the technical execution of our evening newscasts. We are looking for someone who thrives under pressure and remains calm and composed in fast-paced, high-stakes situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all technical operations during live and recorded productions, ensuring smooth execution and top-notch quality.

  • Direct live, fast-paced newscasts with a focus on precision and timing.

  • Operate and manage broadcast equipment, including ROSS automated systems, ROSS robotic cameras, ENPS, Adobe Premiere, Chyron, and Adobe Photoshop.

  • Collaborate with producers to create and deliver newscasts that align with the intended content, tone, structure, and pace.

  • Contribute creative ideas to enhance newscast presentation and visual appeal.

  • Edit and assemble raw footage into cohesive segments according to scripts or instructions for newscasts and other programming.

  • Review footage to identify necessary corrections and ensure seamless transitions in storytelling.

  • Trim segments and assemble sequences to maximize the impact of news stories.

  • Work effectively within a team, balancing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

  • Collaborate with the News and Creative Services departments to ensure alignment on the visual and graphic elements of the newscasts.

  • Maintain on-air programming quality through careful attention to detail and adherence to station policies.

  • Qualifications:

  • Experience in television, film, or postproduction is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to handle fast-paced live broadcasts and stay composed during breaking news.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to address issues that arise during live broadcasts.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with producers, video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, and the production and engineering teams.
