U.S. Coast Guard Military Pay Technician, GS-0545-6/7 in Topeka, Kansas

Summary This position is located in theOperations Divisionof the Coast Guard Pay& Personnel Center (PPC),located inTopeka,KS. Responsibilities You will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for military or retired pay and personnel processes for Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and U.S. Public Health Service members.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing and processing final actions to resolve various complicated pay problems using a variety of techniques for military pay actions. Reviewing medical board reports, military pay orders as well as documents and information from the VA, state, or service hospitals, where members are receiving treatment. Reviewing and updating the garnishment module and sundry indebtedness transactions to ensure that regulatory provisions of statutes are applied correctly. Reviewing payroll control and variance reports. Utilizing the automated payroll systems to research accounts and determine whether adjustments are necessary. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position. This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Qualifications You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possessone year equivalent to at least next lower grade level performing duties such as: Calculates pay entitlements, and inputs appropriate transactions to credit or debit the member’s pay account. Receives inquiries of a routine and complex nature from individuals concerning payroll matters. You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level performing duties such as: Calculates pay entitlements, and inputs appropriate transactions to credit or debit the member’s pay account. Receives inquiries of a routine and complex nature fromindividuals concerning payroll matters. Verifies that transaction are mathematically accurate, contain proper accounting data, and are in compliance with federal laws and regulations. Researches and corrects pay accounts according to various regulations and notifies individuals of computations involved in the correction of their accounts. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
