Meta Counsel, Privacy Investigations in Topeka, Kansas


Meta is seeking a talented and highly motivated team player for a role on the Global Legal Privacy Incident Management team. As a member of our team, you will direct and advise investigations, conduct legal risk assessments, identify and assess regulatory and individual notification requirements, and coordinate and synchronize Meta’s global response to privacy-related incidents. This position requires business acumen, strong collaborative skills, excellent communication, and substantive knowledge of global privacy breach laws. A successful candidate is excited by complex privacy projects (especially breach response), thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can seamlessly drive success working with multiple cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Skills:

Counsel, Privacy Investigations Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain subject matter expertise in areas of privacy and data protection laws (including GDPR and other global privacy laws) and advise on the impact of the same on Meta’s business

  2. Advise and assist engineering, privacy, and security teams in the conduct of investigations into suspected privacy incidents, including applicability of privacy/data breach laws and requirements to notify users and regulators

  3. Advise on the development and management of Meta's (and its affiliates') terms and data policies across the full range of Meta’s different products and advise investigations into potential breaches of such policies

  4. Advise business team clients, such as HR, communications, and research teams, on privacy requirements

  5. Support members of the legal, business, and policy teams on legal matters related to privacy and security data breach response

  6. Draft and coordinate global delivery of regulatory and user notifications in response to privacy incidents

  7. Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with stakeholders across Meta's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments

  8. Assist in the development and conduct of general and role-specific privacy trainings across Meta

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar

  2. 3+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience

  3. Experience using business judgment and with client counseling

  1. Experience providing counsel to the conduct of privacy investigations and analyzing the results pursuant to applicable breach notification laws

  2. Demonstrated expertise in the US state and federal privacy laws and regulations, GDPR and other global privacy laws

  3. Experience drafting breach notifications and responding to inquiries from privacy regulators
