Intermountain Healthcare Communications Director - Nevada in Topeka, Kansas
The Director of Communication is a driving force in propelling the Intermountain brand and reputation for the Nevada Region. This position requires a relationship builder with a growth mindset who is proactive, assertive and influential while maintaining diplomacy.
You will be directly responsible for the development and execution of communication strategy, policies, activities and narrative that align the strategic objectives of Intermountain Healthcare. You will have the opportunity to join a growing Marketing and Communications (MAC) team locally, as well as collaborate with counterparts at the enterprise level, gaining access to vast experience across multiple disciplines.
The Director is a key partner to the Medical Group and Region leadership teams and reports to the AVP of Marketing & Communications for Nevada.
This role is a hybrid work arrangement. There will be flexibility in how in-office time is managed, but it will require on-site work in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.
Lead, manage and coordinate the development, execution and oversight of communication strategies/plans for the region and prioritize its multiple audiences/services (medical groups, physician networks, brokers, business functions, business lines), supporting the region’s mission, values and goals
Provide expert counsel to the senior leadership teams related to all aspects of external communication
Establish, maintain and monitor region wide policies, standards, practices and metrics related to communication, including key message development and management, that help to improve, guide and align communications across the region
Develop high-quality deliverables through powerful storytelling via multiple channels and technology for high efficiency and relevancy – use the right channels at the right time and best frequency
Drive employee engagement and culture through optimized internal communications strategy, process and structure that strive for best-in-class standards
Proactively build and nurture community relationships and sponsorships which align with Intermountain’s values and brand to accelerate achievement of vision and goals for the Region
Lead an effective crisis management strategy that anticipates and responds to events that pose a threat to the region’s reputation and performance
Develop activities, content and robust relationships to optimize owned and earned media exposure for the Region and promote the organization’s capabilities and reputation
Coordinate communication strategies and activities with enterprise and regional marketing strategies/activities to assure alignment and avoid duplication
Lead, coach and inspire a team of communications professionals to drive a results-oriented environment focused on engagement, reach and customer experience
Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, English, business, or a related college major involving marketing and communications skills and critical thinking. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution and education is verified.
Eight years of relevant experience as defined here: four years in a leadership role (ie. leading a team of reports, not simply project leadership) in marketing (digital and non-digital), communications, public relations, media relations, consumer insights/analytics, or advertising including planning, budgets and policies with successful experience developing teams. An additional four years of marketing and communications experience as a subject matter expert for a defined portfolio, function, or service.
Strong understanding of analytics and research, and their application to developing, evaluating, and refining marketing and communications activities.
Experience using a wide variety of marketing communications tools and channels in the delivery of on-brand, consumer-focused messages.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to perform under stress; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; excellent writing, editing, interviewing, counseling, and design knowledge.
Experience working independently and effectively without close supervision, while consulting and coordinating with other management team members or stakeholders.
Master's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business or related field.
Media relations experience dealing with controversial issues.
Experience working in marketing and communications within the healthcare or health insurance industry.
Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience leading the comprehensive communication strategy for a large, complex, nationally recognized organization(s), while recognizing the requirements of various business units, stakeholders and audiences
Experience managing the communications strategies related to mergers and acquisitions and/or “carve outs”
Successful experience working directly with senior executives
Work experience within industries subject to intense regulatory and media scrutiny
Expertise in the development and management of messaging platforms and the use of a wide range of communication channels and technology that effectively support effective internal and external communication
Ability to make strategic and succinct presentations to senior leadership and external stakeholders
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and media relations
Ability to provide writing samples, communication plans, targeted to internal and external stakeholders that demonstrate exceptional writing and the ability to translate complex issues to a wide range of audiences
Successful experience as an organization’s spokesperson in high risk, high visibility situations
Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.
