Meta Communication Systems XR Architect in Topeka, Kansas
At Meta Connectivity (MCx), we focus on enabling “metaverse-ready networks” – an industry-wide push to accelerate the evolution of connectivity to help bring the metaverse to life. Connectivity team is leading several efforts to address current bottlenecks and gaps in Communications Systems Provider (CSP) networks which are owned by our industry partners and sit in the middle between AR/VR applications on Meta infra and first/third party devices. The limitations in device form factor size, weight and battery life are driving the offload of signal processing for immersive AR/VR applications from devices into the CSP middle stressing the latency and data rate requirements in mobile and fixed wireless networks. As the CSP XR Architect, you will be required to independently develop communication system architecture with tight integration of XR processing and split rendering functions into various stages of CSP networks to meet motion to photon latency and high fidelity of display for AR/VR applications. You will be involved in all phases of the project and work with several engineers, contractors, vendors and cross functional partners to lead research, engineering, prototyping and delivery of advanced communication systems that meet E2E quality of experience (QoE). In particular, you will work with other technical leads and program managers to clearly understand and define communication systems and drive external vendors through full product realization. This role will influence the definition of next generation standards in terms of system concepts and CSP network architecture.
Communication Systems XR Architect Responsibilities:
Develop innovations and technical contributions to optimize mobile and fixed wireless networks in domain of distributed system for XR processing offload and content delivery to meet requirements for motion to photon latency and high fidelity of display in AR/VR applications
Support definition, implementation, and execution of the program vision, strategy, and tactics
Engage in bringing up, debugging and tuning the performance of solution in the lab and field
Develop behavior models of the overall distributed XR system and engage in latency vs processing offload tradeoffs and cross layer optimizations to maximize Quality of Experience (QoE)
Experience building new concepts for low latency and high data rate in domain of Communication Systems Provider (CSP) network architecture and protocols
Understanding of ecosystem drivers and technology around the communications industry and 3GPP and/or IEEE standards
Understanding of XR pipeline including Edge compute and untethered head-mount device processing for sensors, content rendering, audio and video encoding/decoding, inside-out location tracking, display assembly, warping and delay compensation
MS or PhD with minimum 10 years experience in CSP networks and/or AR/VR products
Active participation in practical deployments
Experience with MATLAB, Python or C/C++
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in all these areas within systems that has been in volume in production
