Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as required.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will assist Grid Technology (GT) engineers on a variety of assignments related to the development and deployment of new technologies onto the Evergy grid.
⦁ Monitor existing Grid Technology (GT) equipment for device health. Involves reviewing several data sources to check for proper communications with devices, proper set-points, device status, etc. Prepare status reports on a periodic basis. Data sources/systems include, but are not limited to Telemetric Website, ECHO, EMS, SynnerGEE, FLISR, Maximo, Power BI, etc.
⦁ Development and deployment of new communicating technologies, select system automation initiatives, and the development of cross-platform integration with various company databases and systems.
⦁ Investigate and trouble-shoot GT device malfunctions or abnormalities. Resolve problems and restore normal operation when possible. Troubleshooting may be remotely from the office or require field visits. Prepare work requests to other departments to resolve more complex problems or where work rules require. Monitor the status of problems and follow-up with responsible parties to ensure completion and restoration to normal operation.
⦁ Assist GT Engineers with Lab Tests and Lab Troubleshooting of new and existing GT equipment.
⦁ Assist GT Engineers with development and preparation of training materials and assist with conducting training of Evergy personnel.
⦁ Communicate GT equipment problems to suppliers and work with supplier personnel to identify solutions acceptable to Evergy. Occasional business travel to supplier sites may be required.
⦁ Assist GT Engineers in maintaining a knowledge library on the operation of Evergy GT systems.
⦁ Provide answers on GT system operation to other Evergy personnel. Seek expertise of GT Engineers for more complex questions.
⦁ Conduct all GT activities in a safety-conscious manner in compliance with all Evergy Safety and Work Practice Rules. Perform an on-site pre-job brief every time field or lab work is performed, even if working alone.
⦁ Provide expert insight into possible methods for leveraging data to be used in the directed maintenance program which will ultimately allow for a reduction in unplanned maintenance activities, increased system reliability and more timely system restorations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
This position requires a high school or equivalent education and at least 10 years of electric utility experience with at least 3 years in a technical/technician role.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
⦁ Base level understanding of distribution system design and operation
⦁ Detailed knowledge of Evergy’s GT equipment and schemes or the aptitude to learn and understand them thoroughly in a short time.
⦁ Experience testing or applying monitoring equipment on the distribution system is preferred.
⦁ Basic computer skills and willingness to use a PC on a regular basis are mandatory (MS Windows, Word, Outlook (email), basic Excel, using the internet)
⦁ Aptitude to learn and apply more complex computer skills
⦁ Effective communication and human relation skills
⦁ Ability to work as part of a team and collaboratively with other Evergy groups as well as customers
⦁ Must possess a valid driver's license and occasionally use personal vehicle if company pool vehicle is not available.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Most work is performed in an office with field work as necessary to perform the job. Travel to other locations within the company is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
