Definition and Examples of Work

+ Assist with installation and repairs of wiring, lighting systems, power equipment, electrical devices, heating equipment and air conditioning

+ Assist with installation and repairs of plumbing and wastewater treatment equipment

+ Assists with repairs of mechanical and electrical equipment

+ Assist with pipe welds and fuses

+ Occasional work with carpentry, concrete and dirt projects

+ Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require

This position works supervised on approved tasks and as part of a team. Engages in problem solving as a team. Decision making is typically done in conjunction with others and purchasing decisions are deferred to a supervisor. Successful completion of job tasks impacts operating costs through efficient utilization of labor, material and equipment, external relationships, customer satisfaction, and external company liability.

Work Environment

+ Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather elements or in a warehouse/production environment, although occasional time is spent in the office.

+ Must work in all weather elements and will be frequently exposed to heat, cold, high humidity, and dust.

+ Noise levels are generally moderate to loud.

+ Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals occurs on a regular basis.

+ Personal protective equipment may be required on a continuous basis.

+ Work will frequently be performed in confined, enclosed spaces, underground, or in elevated places accessed by ladders or lifts.

+ Frequent exposure to roadside traffic, high voltage elements, and sewer ponds.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Knowledge of traffic regulations and practices followed in care and safe operation of vehicles and light construction equipment.

+ Knowledge of general practices in care and safe operation of light construction, maintenance equipment and hand tools.

+ Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to operation of equipment upon highways.

+ Ability to service a motorized vehicle or equipment and to make minor running repairs.

+ Ability to perform manual labor related to the demands of the Utilities working group.

+ Ability to operate various tools and equipment including hand and power tools.

+ Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction.

+ Problem solving ability

+ Ability to work well with others

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Experience in electrical, mechanical or plumbing work helpful

Required Education and Experience

+ High school diploma or GED

+ Valid Kansas DL

Certification, License, Registration (may be required after training provided by the KTA)


+ First aid / CPR
