The role you’ll contribute:
The HIM Specialist I accurately reviews medical records after discharge for completeness with the hospital’s bylaws, TJC, federal and state requirements. Scans all hard copy documents into the patient record. Assures that deficiencies are correctly assigned. Completes birth certificates and files electronically within the State required timeframe. Serves as a liaison between the HIM contract services and HIM department. When necessary is responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient and outpatient medical records using correct ICD10-CM/CPT/HCPCS codes and abiding by coding conventions.

· Verifies all patient records are received and are appropriately identified.
· Reviews patient records to identify forms to be scanned.
· Accurately scan documents with proper identification.
· Analyzes patient records for completeness and accuracy according to department and hospital policy and procedures.
· Completes birth certificates and files electronically with the State within required timeframe.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :
Associate’s Degree or Graduate of a Technical School or Technical Certification
1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
