School Term Full-timePurpose StatementProvides piano accompaniment during instruction. Plays accompaniment at sight for classes in art, song, and voice for choral groups and individuals. Illustrates different musical forms. Adapts themes to the piano from recorded music. May accompany student performances. May assist in music selection.Essential Functions

+ Provide piano accompaniment for soloists and choral groups at a variety of performances and special events including rehearsals, festivals and competitions.

+ Consult with instructor regarding technical music decisions, such as discrepancies in scores and errors in printed music; transpose and transcribe music as needed.

+ Prepare music materials for classroom use by copying and taping individual parts; duplicate or record tapes and compact discs of vocal parts for student use; edit music as needed.

+ Rehearse and tutor individual or small groups of students; recommend modifications to vocal harmonies during practice and encourage student involvement and participation.

+ Participate in communicating musical theory and concepts to students.

+ Consult with instructor regarding upcoming activities; research and plan appropriate music for choir classes and performances.

+ Assist in the coordination of and participate in student group activities related to music education.

+ Rehearse with various guest musicians including drummers and guitar and bass players; arrange and chart music for guest musicians as necessary.

+ Arrange for and schedule piano tuning and repairs.

+ Maintain a library of categorized files of sheet music and audio recordings.

+ Operate a variety of audio equipment; evaluate sound balance on electronic equipment for classes, rehearsals and performances.

+ Set up or oversee the setting up of instruments, monitors, amplifiers and microphones.

+ Perform a variety of general clerical duties relating to classroom and student activities including assisting the instructor with paperwork and maintaining records; operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.

+ Correct student work as assigned.

Reports To Vocal Music Teacher(s) and Building Principal(s)Supervises No supervisory responsibilitiesEducation Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education, or &nbs p; Obtain an associate’s, or higher, degree, or High School diploma or equivalent and pass a State approved assessmentQualifications Must be able to read music.
