Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for Maintenance Supervisor for Physical Plant Services and Grounds department. The Maintenance Supervisor will lead all full-time groundskeepers and part-time/seasonal workers, checking daily on workmanship, appearance, timeliness and accuracy of work.
Duties and Responsibilities of Position
> 50% - Lead Landscape Maintenance employees and perform skilled > work on University properties, which involves coordinating plans which > includes labor, materials and equipment in completion of daily work > assignment; establish projects and follow them through to completion; > direct, evaluate and assist subordinates in planting and cultivating > shrubs, ground cover, flowers, trees and other miscellaneous projects; > assist in and coordinate chemical spraying of vegetation for insect, > disease and weed control; coordinate and assist in mowing, trimming, > edging and management of lawn and planter areas; coordinate landscape > projects.
> 20% - Perform administrative tasks; write and communicate work > assignments; maintain records related to equipment and grounds > maintenance work; perform other paperwork/electronic assignments, such > as work orders, schedules, emails, etc.; document disciplinary cases; > design landscaping plans; estimate and order materials, staff and > equipment costs of projects; ensure safety practices and proper > personal protective equipment are used by employees; assist Physical > Plant Supervisor in the evaluation of subordinate employees; and train > Landscape Maintenance personnel.
> 20% - Superviseoperation of trucks/vehicles, loaders, skid steer, > fork lifts, back-hoes, sprayers, edgers, trimmers, tractors, chain > saws and all other landscape equipment and tools; maintain equipment; > supervise, direct, and operate snow removal equipment; supervise, and > assist grading, back filling, tree and shrub removal; supervise repair > of roadways and parking lots.
> 5% - Supervise the maintenance and storage of all equipment and > tools, being aware of maintenance needs, scheduling and keeping a > record of equipment use and repairs; ensureallequipment
> is in proper working condition before use and is properly cleaned and > stored after use; at the end of each day, insure all shop and storage > areas are securely locked and records of daily work performed by each > crew is turned in. Rresponsible for snow and ice removal before, > during and after normal work day or weekend.
> 5% - Supervise and assist in miscellaneous tasks, such as setting > up barricades, loading/unloading trucks, cleaning window wells, > removal of dead or nuisance animals, setting and cleaning up for > graduation/athletic events, concessions, picnics, outdoor concerts, > etc; perform various shop projects and grounds-related tasks at > off-campus properties (biology reserves, radio tower). Attend > workshops and seminars in order to further job-related abilities and > ensure all Equipment Operator Seniors attend workshops and seminars as > required by the administration. Assist other departments of Physical > Plant and other tasks as directed for the benefit of the University.
