rAbout This Role:

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Custodial Specialist. This position exists to provide cleaning and sanitation in the various areas at the Vet Med Complex at KSU. Subject to on-call, standby and inclement weather response. This position is considered essential. The incumbent will be responsible to know, understand, and follow safety guidelines in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, to include K-State and Facilities policies and procedures. The incumbent will also be responsible to comply with the safe work practices identified in the departmental Job Hazard Analysis, Personal Protective Equipment Assessment and Departmental Safety Orientation Acknowledgment form. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of safety regulations, guidelines and work practices to prevent injury to yourself and others.



Duties/Responsibilities





+ Cleans surgery, surgery recovery, and pre-surgery induction stalls in large animal hospital with high pressure hot water. Sanitizes all of these areas except the walls and surgery equipment with a sanitizing solution that is requested by the surgery personnel in order to maintain a good report when they are inspected for accreditation with the American Animal Hospital Association. The floor mats that are used for injury protection in the induction stalls and recovery stalls must be cleaned, sanitized, hung on special drying racks, and returned to floor when dry. It is requested by surgery personnel that the employees be gowned and feet covered with special surgery attire to perform part of the functions that need to be done in the surgery areas. Cleans animal examining rooms, laboratories not restricted to admittance, and any other areas in the multi-building complex by wet mopping with sanitizing agents, scrubbing machines, and other custodial floor care machines. Special instructions will be given for the proper handling of the equipment and special needs in the surgery areas to meet accreditation requirements for the hospital.



+ Cleans and sanitizes areas of the multi-building Veterinary Complex by cleaning halls, lobbies, and waiting rooms by wet and dry mopping and sanitizing areas as needed. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies from storerooms. Cleans offices, classrooms, and lecture halls by emptying wastebaskets, cleaning chalkboards and erasers, and stripping, sealing, waxing and burnishing of floors. Replace light bulbs as required in assigned area.



+ Cleans research and teaching laboratories that do not have restricted admittance. The employee will get special instructions from the supervisor or the laboratory occupant as to any special safety, cleaning procedures, and guidelines that are required for each laboratory they are assigned to maintain.



+ Perform other miscellaneous duties in the Veterinary Medicine Complex as may be required by immediate supervisor. This position is considered essential during emergencies and inclement weather and may be called in early or required to stay late until the emergency is over.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Preferred Qualifications:





+ Prefer experience performing custodial tasks in a hospital environment or in a commercial setting requiring specific sanitation procedures.



+ Be able to learn the operation of a wide variety of commercial janitorial equipment and understand/follow explicit instructions in English, both in oral and written form.
